GOP StallsIinvestigation into Torture Scandal
WASHINGTON - Accusing House Republicans of blocking a formal investigation of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal, Democrats said yesterday that they would launch their own inquiry, and called on President Bush to send them "key documents" - some of them classified - about the allegations.

"While we would prefer to participate in committee investigations ... we cannot allow the refusal of the Republican leadership and the committee chairs to pursue these matters to obstruct Congress' access to essential information," wrote the group, including the top Democrats on the Defense, International Relations and Intelligence committees.

5. They have to.
There is nothing good in this for them. The more details coming out, the worse this problem becomes for them. Right now its all about CYA. Its not a smart move.

7. It's about time the Dems showed some backbone!
During the "dark years" - the first two years of the Bush Presidency, you wouldn't have thought there were ANY non-Republicans in Washington, the way the Repubs just called the shots w/o any argument to speak of.

Now that they've lost some re-elections in Congress, maybe they are getting the message that we, the people, WANT there to be two parties in Washington, not one.
