I encountered in graduate school.
There is a Burger King right on the edge of the Florida State University campus, and it is also across the street from the apartment complex in which I lived during my last four years of grad school. There was a woman working at this Burger King, a single mom with twin boys -- who should be around 11 or 12 years old now. The mother worked a 6-8 hour shift while the boys were at school. When the boys got out of school at 3, they came straight to the restaurant on the city bus. They would sit in one of the booths and do their homework. Meanwhile, between orders, their mom would check their homework. Furthermore, this woman was determined not to spend the rest of her working life making burgers, as she -- along with one of the managers -- was taking classes at the local community college.
This woman left BK -- or at least was transferred to another store -- shortly before I got my degree in 2002. Either way, I did not see her or the twins the last 2 or 3 months I was in Tallahassee. Wherever they are now, I wish them well.:)
