Why Dubya HAS to have a second term come Hell or high water (pun intended)
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 03:54 PM by TrogL
(part of one paragraph went missing)

I've just been reading several scary articles that have come out over the last 24 hours. There's been a number of threads about each of the articles, but I feel the need to start yet another one to tie together a few specific points that may have been overlooked.

The current Dubya administration needs a second term in a way no previous administration has. (sorry about the grammar)

Here's why.

  1. http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/03/1626202 This article points out that they have left themselves wide open for prosecutions relating to the Geneva Convention on Warfare (see http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/91.htm). This is one of the reasons Dubya spoke to a lawyer yesterday. They are afraid that the next administration (if they aren't it) will prosecute them for getting the US into this mess in the first place, starting with the Guantanamo camp.
  2. They haven't locked down SCOTUS. Opponents to court nominations at lower levels have done such a good job (not great, but acceptable) that they know they're not gonna be able to do anything about SCOTUS should a replacement be required before November. Given the age of some of the judges there's bound to be at least one vacancy in the next four years, maybe several. They could lock up that branch of government for generations.
  3. Enron. Yesterday's release of tapes and transcripts show culpability that could extend to the White House. The next administration could not be as forgiving to participants as the current one.
  4. They don't have a lock on the budget. If I understand the situation even Republican members of the House are on strike concerning the budget because they're concerned about some of the spending. If deadlock continues into November they could lose defense pork barrel.
  5. They haven't crippled enough oversight. There's plenty of Environmental regulations still in force preventing companies from profiting from polluting the environment. Something has to be done about OH & S safety standards. They need to get tort reform through.
  6. Oil wars. (My pet conspiracy theory - see website below) They don't have a lock on Afghanistan, or Iraq or the rest of the Middle east. OPEC hasn't been behaving like a lapdog lately. There's talk of moving oil to the Euro. Canada's bringing huge new oilfields online after decades and billions spent in research and development. US resources are tapped out and Canada has been less than cooperative on other resources like water and softwood lumber. Canada has powerful friends that would resent an invasion. Alberta has gone soft on separatism (and possibly joining the US).
  7. NAFTA and other "America" issues. Canada and Mexico have been getting uppity on NAFTA issues. Canada looks like they just got a deal on softwood lumber. Canada's Prime Minister wants to reopen NAFTA - so does Kerry. This could be disastrous on a number of issues.
  8. The wall between church and state still stands. It's somewhat weakened but Dubya's faith-based initiatives have been stalled and won't be in place by November. It will take another four years to lock this down.
  9. PNAC. Egypt is the prize. As it stands it looks more likely to fall to Islamic fundamentalists. There's plenty of other stuff on the list that hasn't been ticked off.

Without these, the Fascist cause will be set back decades.

2. SCOTUS
Both O'Connor and Rehnquist were rumored to be considering retirement last year. I understand that Karl Rove did not want a confirmation fight prior to the election and both O'Connor and Rehnquist stayed on. It would be difficult for Bush to get any one controversial confirmed right now unless the nuclear option is used in the senate. That means that if Bush wants to select the replacements for both O'Connor and Rehnquist as well as replacements for Stevens (the oldest judge on the bench) and Ginsberg (in poor health according to rumors), then Bush needs a second term.

5. Yep
They only need one or two more fascist judges for * to be declared dictator in the new Fundamentalist Christian States of America.

This is Pat Robertson's dream, and he's damn close to having it.

6. then it is simple
the rest of the world pays us back. they take us down. could be messy. like we did hitler in germany..........and we wonder why universe brings world war II back for us. and bushie boy yelling iraq same of world war II. it isnt if you see us in iraq as good guys that is for sure. but is a world war II if the world stands up to us and says you have become the hitler, time to end it.

interesting

i have been seeing as all the troops leave (which could be it in establishing martial law without our u.s. army to protect the people. allow buscho to do. i have been seeing the outside world coming to america............and the battle be set here. thats a scary scenerio, wink.......oh how we could play, in thought

7. I've been thinking the rest of the world won't let it happen.
If it starts to look as if bush is going to win the election, I have a feeling that other world leaders and OPEC are going to drop some "bombs" of their own....and they could.

Just that one issue, of OPEC switching to the Euro, would kick the snot out of our economy. And if bush's election looks eminent, I believe they would switch to the Euro. The stock market would lose a lot more than it lost after the tech bubble burst...a lot more.

:kick:
