TURN OFF CNN! TURN OFF MSNBC! Take the pledge....
You'll feel better. I promise.

Take the pledge:

I hereby will STOP watching and supporting the Corporate Media mouthpieces at CNN and MSNBC.

1. I haven't watched cable news since 2000
I think I am a happier person today because of it.

3. I de-programmed Faux News off the remote last year
because I refuse to let my children watch pornography.

Which as we all know, does not necessarily mean nekkid people.

6. I haven't watched 99% of the new shows on cable for over a year
The only news show that I will watch in order of accuracy are the following:

1. The Daily Show
2. Lou Dobbs
3. CBS 60 minutes, I and II
4. Bloomberg with the volume off, just watching the ticker

7. Turn off cable news
We're already on board. Canceled our cable after cable news failed to protest the 2000 appointment of Bush.

8. Spare us the WHINING!
I have no cable here. If some people have to watch,I would appreciate not having to hear about it. Cable TV ratings are so small as to be unimportant.
Cable TV "news" is a fart in a tornado.

11. How can you know how to fight them if you don't watch their propoganda
outlets?.....That's what I always think whenever I see one of these threads telling people to tune out CNN and MSNBC. You have to know what your enemy is doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15. The important stuff
is on the internet and in books and magazines at your public library/bookstore/newstand. When you stop watching, you realize that much more than you thought of what is on TV is spin and deception. It is a total waste of time. Many of the programs get you hooked on an emotional level that impedes clear thinking. Jefferson and Adams would have appeared on TV, but I doubt that they would have watched it much. TV does not encourage the viewer to think nearly as much as does the written word.

16. We're probably in the minority at DU - but I agree with glarius
I thinks that's a big part of the problem with Liberals/Progressives/Dems - proudly avoiding this stuff we fail to fight back. I'd rather see aggressive Dems go after this crap like the Rethugs do and remind the media we're watching and demand fairness.

18. Thinking alike as well
I refuse to watch Faux though...it's a lost cause. IMO, watch it and then demand they live up to fair journalistic standards.

26. Disagree...puts Dems constantly on the DEFENSE
What's the best way to deal with a bully?

is it to constantly react to what he/she has to say?

No..it's to ignore them. Once they realize that they aren't making any impact, they STOP!

Same here. CNN sees you all in a frenzy and they know it only drives up ratings to attract conservatives and liberals who just watch to get mad.

12. Send a message to corporate media
In addition to feeling good and having more time to read and talk with family and friends, dropping cable TV saves money in several ways. First, you don't have to pay the outrageous monthly subscription fee to the cable company. Second, you save on other expenses. No matter how immune you think you are, watching those ads makes you think that buying something, anything, will make you feel better. We have found it is amazing how much less money we spend -- generally speaking -- when we don't watch TV ads. Eventually, enough of us turning off cable (and the TV in general) will send a message to corporations.

Thanks for the post.

Because you do not know what the hell you are talking about and are depending on someone else at DU to fill you in on what happened...I cannot understand the head in the sand strategy???

24. CNN is the only sane alternative to Fox.
Do you really want to let Brit Hume and the rest reign unopposed?

And... I do think that Judy Woodruff, Wolf Blitzer and Lou Dobbs provide sane and informative programs. It was because of Dobbs, who was known as a conservative, perhaps even a Republican, highlighting outsourcing that the issue got so much attention.
