Could the Reagan story be disinfo?
I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but could that story about Reagan be a Rovian ploy? It guarantees Reagan will be a topic of conversation over the next few weeks. If he doesn't die by then, they could say he made a bit of a recovery. Notice it came out the same week Bush hired a lawyer and Tenet suddenly resigned. I have no proof, of course, but I can't help wondering if the source for the story is someone in the Bush WH, not a Reagan confidant.

Yes, I'm wearing my tinfoil hat.

From Sludge, I mean "Drudge" :eyes:

"Reagan aide said that the former President has taken a turn for the worse. They don't think the end is imminent (not tomorrow). Staffers are being told to go about their business, to go on vacation if scheduled...

After Reagan dies, streets near the house in Belair will be closed. There will be NO annoucement of death from the house. Someone will call the news wires and announce where there will be an on-camera statement.... MORE..."

...The cosmic dust cloud, the invasion of Iran, or the fact that Junior's latest "economic recovery" report is a lie like all the others have been.

He's 93 years old and dying of a debilitating disease.

I may loathe the sonofabitch to the core, but I will not let that blind me to the utter medical truth of his condition.

7. Reagan is 93 and has Alzheimer's disease....
...it clearly would be God's mercy to take him now. As for Karl Rove, anything is possible if that son-of-a-bitch has a hand in it! IMO.

15. Taking a quick look at Otto Reich, in Reagan's Office of Public Diplomacy
could put things in perspective.

Here's an abbreviated look at his/their work:
It’s worth noting that the 4th PSYOPS group is the same group that staffed the National Security Council's now notorious Office of Public Diplomacy (OPD), which planted stories in the U.S. media supporting the Reagan Administration's Central America policies during the 1980s. Described by a senior U.S. official as a "vast psychological warfare operation of the kind the military conducts to influence a population in enemy territory" (Miami Herald, 7/19/87), the OPD was shut down after the Iran-Contra investigations, but not before influencing coverage in major outlets including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Washington Post (Extra!, 9-10/01).
(snip/...)
http://www.fair.org/activism/osi-propaganda.html

Reich, who was chosen by George W. Bush to head his Latin American affairs in the State Department was investigated by a Congressional committee, and believed to be operating illegally while at the O.P.D.

That's why Senator Christopher Dodd tried so hard to keep his appointment from going through. Too bad Bush slid him into place during a Congressional Recess. Seems damned unsportsmanlike.

In the 1980s, Otto Reich was chief of a department in the State Department that was ; called the Office of Public Diplomacy and staffed with CIA and Pentagon "psychological ; warfare" specialists. The function of the operation was to fool the American public about the nature of the conflicts in Central America by disseminating false information, discrediting reporters whose work the Reagan administration did not like, and using other means of mist leading propaganda. In short, the Office of Public Diplomacy was in the business of producing disinformation of the kind that is generally used to mislead an enemy during conventional warfare, except that during the unconventional and illegal Contra war it was being used to lie to journalists, Congressional committees, and the U.S. people. Reich "helped plant stories and opinion pieces praising the Contras in U.S. newspapers. It wasn't just the stories that were phony, so were the authors. Reich's office wrote them all." Congress, once it uncovered the illegal operations of this office, closed it down and Otto Reich barely avoided indictment.
