What would have happened if Ford hadn't pardoned Nixon?
Would he have been tried and gone to jail?

2. It seemed like a good idea at the time to many people.
I was too young to vote when it happened.

In retrospect, it was a mistake. It allowed the neocons to escape into the jungles of South America, where they bided their time. It would have been better to thoroughly clean house at the time.

We gave them all a pass again with Iran-Contra. I was furious about that, and still can't believe that this country elected Poppy Bush instead of throwing him in jail, along with his murdering lying neocon buddies.

We're reaping the fatal fruits now. This time, it is important not to let them get away.

If Kerry gets elected and hands out pardons for this crew's behavior, I will be furious.

handing out pardons; the Chimp in charge will do that on national television the evening of January 19, 2005. Who started that pardoning business, anyway? Was it Ray-gun?

4. No!
He would not have gone to jail. The GOP was the party back then!! Therefore no jail. I do agree however, looking back at it, the pardon was the proper thing to do. Just get on with the business of the country.

5. We need a Constitutional Amendment
stating that a president cannot pardon former administrations that have been convicted of anything.

wouldn't have lived long. And many a head would have been spared a thunking with a golf ball.

9. I don't understand what you mean by "The GOP was the party back then!!"
Democrats controlled both houses of Congress; if they hadn't, Nixon would never have been impeached.

7. Jimmy Carter wouldn't have won in 1976
big difference. Ford just showed everyone (once again) that he was a Warren Commission go-along type of guy.

10. At least Reagan wouldn't have run 1980
Maybe if Ford had won re-election we wouldn't have seen the rise of the modern RW.
