I was actually more sad when Paul Wellstone died.
People talk about how sad Reagan died but I must say that I was gutted when word got out that Paul Wellstone was killed. In fact, I was nearly in tears. Paul Wellstone was a leader I was more willing to mourn than Reagan.

1. Paul Wellstone is sorely missed
Paul Wellstone was not 93 years old, either. His death, and his wife and daughter's, was a tragedy that did not have to happen. Something went very wrong that day and we still don't know why. There is still nobody to take his place. America needs Paul Wellstone.

2. Wellstone was a Dem, and his death was an unexpected tragedy
Regan was a Republican, and, well, in his nineties.

3. My first reaction was anger, not sadness.
Because I knew "they got him." The sadness came later.

4. Of course, you liked and respected him and it was a shocking, tragic

untimely death.

This isn't shocking or tragic (he was 93 years old and would have been better off if he died years ago - Alzheimer's is terrible).

5. does that mean you're sad?
Maybe you want to rephrase that a bit.

I'm not happy he died, but I'm certainly not mourning him, given what he did to this country and the rest of the world.

Wellstone should not even be mentioned in the same breath as RR. He was the polar opposite: dedicated to helping all, especially the less fortunate, appealing to peoples' best sides, to their positive ideals.

Wellstone was a true hero.

16. True. Wellstone was a true liberal and cared about America.
Paul Wellstone had Character, Reagan was just a lucky moran who got in with the right crowd.

6. So was I, but it doesn't mean it's not unseemly to bash Reagan now
Reagan was one of the most IMPORTANT American's to have ever lived. And I think a fair person has to look at him and say that, even if as most of us including me believe that his policies were bad for America, that he cared about America and believed his actions to be advantageous and noble for the future of America.

And of all the times to bash him that we have had and will have now is not the ideal time to do so.

10. Reagan was a cynical partisan hack.
He didn't give a damn about America and began the final destruction of this country.

He should have died in prison.

12. Ok DenverDem, was he one of the Lizard-Men? I'll be eager to find out
since you know so much about the David Icke world control theories?

That must have been what sent Reagan into dementia, after he left the whitehouse he lost his supply of good human blood to drink.

14. I was devastated by Wellstone's Death
I can't remember how many times I thought about how bad things were in the US Senate, the Democratic Party or America and thought, At least we still have Paul Wellstone fighting for the right thing. Thankfully I think some people have stepped up and shown more courage since he left us. There's no one like Wellstone but at least we have some people like Dick Durbin and Dennis Kucinich who don't back down when others would. I believe following Wellstone's example is the best hope for American politics today.

I grew up in the 80's and my main memories of Reagan were my Mom mouthing off when he came on the TV about how he always did the opposite of what he said. He was one of the most destructive Presidents in our history and we still suffer from his presidency today. I wonder if any of the news reports will mention during whose administration the US helped supply Iraq with chemical weapons and intelligence.

There is no comparing the two.

17. I cried for days after Wellstone passed~
It broke my heart into a hundred pieces when Paul and his wife passed.

My husband called me at work to tell me, and I had to leave the building. I got on my cell phone and called my Mom crying hysterically.

I cried for days on and off afterwards and it tainted my belief of justice in the world.

I'm not a person that cries often, either.

I felt the same way when Princess Diana died.

20. Wellstone died a violent and untimely death.
As for Reagan, he managed to live long enough to get two careers in.

21. I feel indifferent right now
I'm definitely not sad, but I'm not dancing on his grave either. I celebrated the end of Reagan's legacy on January 20, 1993. However, I was grief stricken when Paul Wellstone died. That was the loss of a truly great man.
