Poll question: Are you glad that Reagan is dead?
Let's settle this. Maybe some of us will find out if we still want to hang out here so much.

Just to clear up any confusion, put the euthanasia angle aside for the sake of argument.

1. I voted yes, but not for the reason some might think
My grandma died of Alzheimers recently, and it was a relief in our family.

5. I did the same....
The only reason to wish for someone's death is to alleviate their suffering.

15. OK, putting that aside
I would say I am indifferent.

His death is actually kinda sad in a way, and I wish death on nobody (unless they mess with my kids).

8. And I did, too.
Reagan was long gone. It was time for his family to be relieved of their suffering.

Alzheimer's is a most cruel disease, not to be wished on one's worst enemy.

Whatever Reagan did is history. He can no longer cause anyone any problems. It is time to let him rest in peace.

6. I voted "no".
Everyone's registering their sentiment on this in scattered threads. I figured that maybe letting people just do it and see how much/little support they got from others would provide a little bit of closure and maybe it wouldn't be all over the rest of this place.

I said last night that I hoped his passing would be swift and painless.

I hesitate to celebrate any man's death.

9. I'm very sad that so many victims of Reagonomics did never...
reach his age and died so early.
Reagan wasn't in power anymore and not harming other people's live anymore, so I simply do not care.
I'm angry that I even know that he's dead. Many more people died today who did better things than Reagan ever did.
Hello from Germany,
Dirk

11. I voted "No."
Because it's really a non-issue. He has been out of power and out of the spotlight for a long time now. I'm fully aware of how his administration's policies continue to affect us, but Reagan himself hasn't had anything to do with that for more than a decade.

Of course, I will avoid watching the news just because of the inevitable annoying, phony, sentimental "reverence."

I think my energy is better spent contributing to Bushwah's defeat.

13. Don't behave like Ann Coulter.
Grow a damn heart. He was retired. He was sick, and his family suffered terribly. The fact that he did great harm in his day is not the point. This gloating sh*t is beneath you.

would have saved his life. Good poll but I sort of have trouble voting on polls about death.

18. He's dead, finally?
Ya mean he's finally on his way to hell? Down there with all the others who could have done so very much for the children and the elderly and poor, but didn't?

No shit? Well yeah, it's too bad he's dead. Now he hasn't a chance in hell to correct his misdeeds and failures. Let this be a lesson to ya, sonny, repent and be saved!

Wait, did RR ever repent? Cause if he did, and he worked to correct all his failings, maybe he ain't in that biblical hell? What do ya know?

22. The one certain fact that we all live with
is we are ALL going to die. He lived a very good life for about 83 years. While his final 10 years were hard on Nancy and his family, he didn't suffer.

Plant him and let's move on.

26. I'm never happy when anyone dies. Reagan was not as bad as Bush and
had not done anyone any harm for years. I admit I'd be "relieved" if Bush were to die, however.

I feel bad for Reagan's son Ron- who is a great liberal. I think his son Patti was also a liberal. And I also have a bit more respect for Nancy - she gave Bush a good asswhupping a few weeks ago.

I have the feeling that she is going to speak out even more not that her husband is dead. She will now have the time to be more active about the stem-cell issue.

32. I voted "no." I too am indifferent.
I would probably be inclined to feel more glad if (1) Reagan had died as a direct consequence of the things he'd done and (2) he'd been actively wreaking havoc at the time of his death.

Neither was the case here. He was a very old man who died of very natural causes and who had not been a participant in current affairs for the last decade.

Far more so than anything else, I'm glad it happened now and not closer to the election.

I absolutely do not pretend to know how Nancy, Patti and Ron Jr. are feeling or what they're thinking, but from what I've heard about Alzheimer's in general, it would seem to me like Ronnie was already effectively dead to them quite some time ago.

39. Yes. Get it out of the way. And, on the Christian side
I suspect it's a kindness to Nancy. She may enjoy her last few years more.

The only downside is that Congress is going to name everything in the US Ronald Reagan whatever, but they overplay everything so that's probably an electoral plus. (There are few things without existing names so every change pisses off somebody)
