I had no idea! Is there an opposing viewpoint? Is that constitutional? Do our taxes help fund Rush's fucking drug addiction?
Is this country going insane?!?!?!?!

17. Latest reason to bug the Pentagon/Armed Forces Radio about
getting Rush the heck off the air.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200406070004

From the June 3 edition of The Rush Limbaugh Show:

LIMBAUGH: I mean, if there is a party that's soulless, it's the Democratic Party. If there are people by definition who are soulless, it is liberals -- by definition. You know, souls come from God. You know? No. No. You can't go there.

****
I really do NOT want armed service people who are trained to kill hearing that Americans of a different political persuasion have no souls and are godless.

5. He Has Been For Some Time
And the program is classified as "entertainment" so there's no violation of the "Fairness Act."

I also wonder how many Iraqis listen and how many lives that pompous addict has cost.

7. I signed the petition
and personally emailed AFN. Their reply was that Rush is the top radio personality in the US and he provides his show free for airing. If so, then Air America should offer their service gratis and see if it is aired.

15. Here's a Salon article about it as well-
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/05/26/rush_limbaugh/print.html

Limbaugh made all kinds of outrageous statements this year, even before he began condoning the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. According to the new Media Matters for America Web site, which monitors the right-wing press, between March 15 and April 29 "Limbaugh used the term 'femi-Nazis' eight times; he suggested that women want to be sexually harassed; he repeatedly equated Democrats with terrorists; he twice resurrected long-discredited right-wing claims that Clinton deputy White House counsel Vince Foster was murdered; he repeatedly called Senator John Kerry a 'gigolo'; he called Howard Dean 'a very sick man'; he said Democrats 'hate this country.'" Is it appropriate for a military audience to be repeatedly beamed these messages?

Says Brock, who is president of Media Matters: "American Forces Radio makes choices based on content. The content of Limbaugh's comments has been so inflammatory that this may be an occasion for them to review the choices they've made. Has Limbaugh crossed the line? They'll have to address that."

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, is upset by the right-wing tilt of American Forces Radio. "Senator Harkin was recently made aware of the situation and he's very concerned about it," says Maureen Knightly, his communications director. "He didn't realize leans that conservatively. It has raised a red flag. Taxpayers pay for it, and he feels there should be better balance in what's being aired." Harkin serves on the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending.

Addicted, self-centered bigots have no business being on the public airwaves in the US much less a combat theatre where the propaganda can cost lives.

13. The FCC Fairness Doctrine was dropped in 1985
Congress attempted to legislate it in 1987 but it was vetoed by then president Ronald Reagan.

This has been a Reagan Legacy Moment, sponsored by the folks at Halliburton where we don't just make wars, we make wars more quagmirish.
