CNN - All Reagan All The Time
Well, wew all knew this was comning eventually - many of us jokingly used the phrase "Give me Reagan over THIS bunch we have now...", so we got him for a whole week. Those of us in our fifties and sixties recall well-before and well-after Ronnie and his death is the end of a certain era in which the country went from state-supported improvements to state-supported repressions.

The one thing which stands out in my mind was that I was teaching doctoral students on the day of the attempted assassination and was told by the department chairman that the President had been shot, went down to the room and announced it to the 80 students at this Ivy League School. One student to my right in the front row immediately asked, "Is he dead yet?" I really went off on him, telling the story fo the third-grade teacher in my Quaker school who came into our fifth grade room happy as a clam when Kennedy was shot and got even more excited when Cronkite announced his death minutes later. I was just outraged that an educated individual would cheer for the anarchist in a Democratic society. I recall telling him that he should be ashamed of himself because civized societies should not tolerate coups, whenther intra- or extra-governmental.

I still see this fellow in professional contexts and interestingly, he's justt as shallow and ridiculous as he was in 1981. It just goes to show that we are formed by Kindergarten graduation and what you see is what you get.

This really did take the wind out of the Bush sails for their historic weekend. Nancy always detested these folk since Barbara was making move-in noises when they knew that Reagan was injured much more seriously than they let on to the media. I don't believe that the Bushes were ever in the living quarters after that incident for nearly 8 years.

This will all be a dim memory by November.

2. I heard one person celebrate ...

I heard one person celebrate when Garrison Keeler alluded to Reagan's death on "This American Life". I see this as a testament to liberals that only ONE yahoo in the audience was so classless.

If Clinton died, conservatives would have parades in the street.

3. That, unfortunately, is true.
There is no bottom to their debasement of the society. My father didn't ask the question, "can it happen here", he used to ask, "when will it happen here."

7. They have the money, the power, the corporations, the military,
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 04:35 PM by Zinfandel
the presidency, the congress, the senate, the Supreme Court, Attorney General and the media...

They are the republicans, and they could and will do anything they want. they will do as they please and you can't stop them.

They want the presidency again, they will just steal it again, right in front of you, and you won't do anything about it.

Except maybe cry on DU.

This is called fascism...we live in fasism, open your eyes, it's not all of a sudden just magically going to get better...how can anyone stop this corporate machine? We are workers in it. That's how they see us and if you look real good and hard, that's exactlly what you and I are...

They know they can slowly keep taking more of our taxes, lower our wages & salaries, cut our health benefits and say fuck our safety it cost too much...if they want to pollute, they will pollute, who is stopping them?

We will slowly keep taking less and less because we have nowhere to go and we'll be just so happy that they'll even give us a job....we will become those robot people.

Because they are the rich & powerful and they want it all and they know no one can stop them.
