that's not surprising. If you thought protestors gathering before a meeting were going to get major coverage, when the leaders were a continent away in a highly visible series of photo-ops, you're optimistic, and I'd say you don't understand the media or the average person's interests.

You're probably right that Reagan will take away from the G8 coverage, especially in the USA. If it helps, it's now the second story in the U.S. section of Google News - "Bush hopes to improve European relations", "Bush turns attention to economic summit", "World leaders to gather this week for G8 summit", etc.

Military intimidation at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church.

This morning a humvee with 3 military personnel parked across from the St. John's Missionary Baptist Church (photos) , which happens to be the church of the Reverend Zack Lyde, signer of the Fair World Fair permit applications, and plaintiff in the ACLU lawsuit brought against the unconstitutional anti-protest laws passed shortly before the Summit (these laws were proposed to the local officials by the G-8 Legal Subcommittee, a subcommittee of the US Department of Justice).

One of the soldiers said he wanted to come into the church to attend the Sunday service. He removed his weapons and came in unarmed, however the vehicle remained parked in front of the church. After about a half hour, one of the other soldiers started going door to door in the residential neighborhood where the Church is located. One of the residents said that he was asked if he had any problem with the people at the church across the street. (This is also the location of the G-8 IMC space)
