Who is Charles Grassley?

I know that he is a Republican. What positions does he hold or held?

He is running for the Republican nomination for President in 2004 to go against President Al Gore.

4. He is a conservative repuke from Iowa.

They have a Democratic governor, who some say is being considered as Kerry's VP. My daughter lives in Iowa. She cannot imagine what Vilasik could add to the ticket. She is a loyal Democrat, but finds him very bland.

They have a Democratic senator also, Harkin. He has a steak fry every summer. Last year, all the Democratic primary contenders were there. Clinton was there, too, and my daughter had a chance to meet him.

Grassley himself is very conservative, but popular. My daughter says his seat is safe, because he gets lots of money for the farmers.

Iowa is considered a swing state. Almost everyone I know in Iowa is a Dem, but then I don't associate with repukes, if I can help it.

5. A senator from Iowa, chairman of the Senate Fiance committee

and as Republicans go, he is a decent moderate senator, has been there forever, before the rabid republican leaders from the south and the southwest took over.

He is not afraid to expose scandals, like the one associated with government issued credit cards that were used to entertain strippers, among other non-military uses.

he's chair of the finance commitee if I'm not mistaken.

I think he's pretty popular in his state...and is unlikely to be unseated anytime soon.

8. He's done some very unrepug things now and then.

He opposed Gulf War I, sponsored the Whistlblower Act, and went after Pentagon waste to name a few things. Very popular Senator here.

As for Vilsack for VP,I say no way. Good Governor, but if some thought Al Gore was stiff, TV is on a whole 'nother plane. IMO he'd ad nothing to the Democratic ticket.

More of a good government pragmatist.

As above poster said, big on whistleblower protections, even if it means going against his party.

I believe he also came out in favor of the testimony of the translator at the FBI, who the govt is trying to silence.
