Weird question I heard at the bank today
A lady asked the teller if the bank was closing Friday. The teller said she didn't think so and asked why. The lady got huffy and said "Its a day of mourning for Reagan. You should shut down on Friday". The rw wouldn't really think of shutting down privately held companies because a guy died would they? That would backfire on them, especially on a Friday when so many people get paid. This lady was convinced that this bank should close up and mourn on Friday. I say we should all get drunk and watch baseball, a movie, or read a book. Anything but the funeral. American commerce must keep going though.

1. Can I just get drunk?
Or do I have to watch baseball, movie or read a book?

2. I'm with you...
...on the drunk thing.

I have heard that Wall Street will not be opening on Friday as a day of memorial for old what's-his-name...

22. Sounds good to me.
Democratic drink-in on Friday. The Godfather of the konservative movement is dead. Instead of toasting the gipper, let us imbibe to purge this evilness from our systems.

I'll take a Boilermaker please. Wild Turkey and Bud.

Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 02:38 PM by leftyandproud
the entire US stock market is closing Friday in honor of Raygun...we are talking several trillion dollars in commerce/exchange being halted because of him. I just don't get it. Wouldn't it be a better honor for the champion of "free enterprise" to keep the markets open?

12. Yeah, and one would think the LAST thing the Gipper would want
would be for federal workers to get an extra paid holiday!

5. Would dancing nekkid in the street seem disrespectful?
Let me know this woman's address, and I'll give her a memorial she won't soon forget. At least, not without years of therapy.

6. Also, banks have to get permission from, I believe the Federal
Reserve, (it's some govt. regulatory agency, anyway; I can't remember exactly which one) to take holidays not on the regular list.

7. On reconsideration
Considering how Ronnie and his deregulation minions shut down the entire Savings & Loan industry, perhaps a bank holiday would be a fitting memorial to the Great Dissembler.

8. Reagan is on his way to be re-made into a diety
of the rethuglican party! I shudder to think of what they will make of him for the 25th, 50th and 100th aniversary of his death!

10. There was a national day off when Nixon died (called by Clinton)
The death of an expresident (reviled or loved) is a signficant event if our society chooses to recognise such things any longer.

13. Frankly, my bank is closed often enough as it is.
Closed Sunday, Saturday afternoon, probably Grandparents' day and Secretaries' day too. I like my banks open, because I like access to my account.

What they should do is load Raygoons casket onto Air Farce one and drop it on a village in Nicaragua, just for old times sake!

Tell the old crow to call the Federal Reserve and complain to them. If the Feds open, we have to be open too. (I work for a bank)]

I'll be glad to take the day off.

23. Congress has already shut down.
As if they needed an excuse! They do nothing anyway. I am irked that Reagan's death is another opportunity for them to milk the taxpayers, but ,all things considered, it is appropriate. And I do know it is traditional, so don't flame. I just think it sucks. We can't afford this and the funeral. The millions spent could pay for health care, or, irony, stem cell research. And funny how networks don't seem to have to be fair in political time because it costs them money ,but they can manage Ronnie 24/7. Maybe he dragged in good sponsors!
