I suppose these guys want to see some beefcake, maybe some jiggling jugs in these ads?

1. Yes. What they really want are titties and back-slaps!
I read this "headline" earlier today, and practically had to swallow my own vomit.

3. They're right.
Commercials are 30-second movies. They are not mini campaign speeches. They have to impress you with one point that will stick with you even if you don't give a fuck about what they're selling. I love John Kerry and I have to force myself to watch his ads.

Yes it's dismaying that they cited Bush's Keystone Kops ad as one that works, but what makes it work is that it visually reinforces its point so that you don't even have to listen to follow what it's saying. And that's a good ad.

4. Kerry Gone Wild!! Shrub Gone Wild!!
I think that in every thirty second commercial, both candidates should be required to flash their bare chests at the cam and giggle/have another sip of beer/scream/flip off cam. At least ONE time, preferably TWICE.

Maybe they could have a reality TV show "Who wants to be President." Shrub and Kerry would have to sit in boxes of scorpions, eat reindeer testes, and try to ride a bike across a wire susepended over a net. Guess we know who would lose that contest. Oh, and set it in the Arizona desert, so they have to rough it. Maybe bring in Pat Buchanan and some other politicians and put them on two teams and see who each team throws off.

Do these execs think that you need an announcer screaming at the top of his lungs about the tractor pull out to the fairgrounds this weekend? Though the info was bullshite, that Shrub commercial with the funny Keystone cops-style crazy car driving was quite a pip. I can just imagine the responses..."HONEY! We HAVE to vote for Shrub! This commercial with the funny driving on it really set it in stone for me."

5. Wellstone's original ads were the best
The takeoff of "Roger and Me".

In "Rudy and Me", he constantly tried to challenge Rudy Boschwitz to a debate. It was hilarious.

Jesse Ventura had a few good ones in '98 as well. I liked the action figure toy ad. It was creative, funny, and not your typical campaign ad.

6. I don't see the ads, but they're probably right
I'd suggest the Democrats use their support in the entertainment industry to get some good writers and production teams working for them for free. They could try comedy sketch writers - they get their message across quickly, often write fast for topical shows, and are memorable. John Cleese used to do them in Britain.

7. it's probably true
so far i don't think anyone has hit on that clever a-ha! that defines genius advertising. for all the money being spent, you'd think there would be some top notch creatives working on this.
