Satellite images 'show Atlantis'

By Paul Rincon
BBC News Online science staff

A scientist says he may have found remains of the lost city of Atlantis.
Satellite photos of southern Spain reveal features on the ground appearing to match descriptions made by Greek scholar Plato of the fabled utopia.

Dr Rainer Kuehne thinks the "island" of Atlantis simply referred to a region of the southern Spanish coast destroyed by a flood between 800 BC and 500 BC.

The research has been reported as an ongoing project in the online edition of the journal Antiquity

find atlantis off the cost of spain

Everybody knows that atlantis is off the coast of the Bahamas. Edgar Casey said so and then they found the Bimini Road.

4. Regardless of How Many 'Atlantises' are Found
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 05:55 PM by Labor_Ready
it's still fascinating to find another previously-unknown city that had been obscured from modern eyes. Whether or not this is the Atlantis of which Plato spoke, these flooded, lost cities point to some sort of catastrophe that may have given rise to 'great flood' mythologies. All civilizations surrounding the Mediterranean and Black Seas carried these 'great flood' stories, and probably provided source material for Noah and the ark. The fire that destroyed the great library at Alexandria in 638 A.D. undoubtedly contained a wealth of information on this matter.

5. There is a new papyrii library
I saw some show where they rediscovered the library at Herculaneum and it had a greek and a latin wing. So far I think they had only been into one wing, atin, I think. The other one was still buried.

Anyway, they were able to flake and scan the charred papyrii lumps in some way as to reveal what was written on them.

7. I just saw something on TV the other day where an
amateur Egyptologist who was a geologist by profession finally figured out why King Tut's tomb remained undisturbed for so long. He was looking at the pics of the original site and realized that there had been a flash flood at some point that had covered the tomb with dirt and debris, hiding it from grave robbers. He guessed everyone else missed this because they were archaeologists by profession and didn't notice the massive rocks lying scattered all around above the entrance to the tomb.

6. I care! I care! I care!
I live for this stuff.

I love it when stuff ends up where it is not sposed to be.

I just got freaked out the other day reading about the Maya, they had an artifact of a woman wearing a conical hat very similar to witch hats like the one in the wizard of Oz. Creepy. And they found a hat like this on one of the Takla Makan (sp?) mummies in China too. Witches were real, people.

I've read a bit about some of the theories of Atlantis, and probably there were alot of Atlantises, (Atlanti?) everybody's homeland before it got conquered or natural disastored or something....I keep waiting for the day archaeology busts through the religion paradigm like a battering ram. ( I'll probably be waiting a while).

9. Hail Atlantis!
The continent of Atlantis was an island
which lay before the great flood
in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land, that from her western shores
those beautiful sailors journeyed
to the South and the North Americas with ease,
in their ships with painted sails.

To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.
Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis!
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
I wanna see you some day
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
My antediluvian baby,
My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl,
Girl, I wanna see you some day.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah
I wanna see you some day, oh
My antediluvian baby.
My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you
My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone
I wanna see you some day
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, oh yeah
Oh glub glub, down down, yeah
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah yeah yeah

12. Interesting that some of us started getting interested in Atlantis about
30 years ago (new books by anthropologists, Cayce, various kinds of focus). This was about the same time we were introduced to the concept of the age of Aquarius - which some say is timed with Venus passing in front of the sun. And now, some say we are in the final period of the age of Pisces and nearly entering the age of Aquarius. Time to sing the song. And hope the concept holds some validity.
