I can't find the orignal letter that sparked this response, but it was from a kid objecting to his state's law that required kids to register for the draft when renewing their driver's liscence. For the record, I think this is a good law because in practice the government almost never prosecutes non-registrants, but you must register if you want financial aid for college. Hence, rich kids who do not need financial aid can blow off registering, but everybody gets a driver's liscence.
Anyway, this letter has a rather fascist tone to it, as it is one of those "love it or leave it" types of arguments.

Now I have heard everything. Would you believe that we have a teenager here that believes that when registering for the draft he would like to be able to specify which war he is registering for (in reference to a letter in the May 31 edition of the Watauga Democrat)? Next we will have soldiers choosing which battles they would like to join in on.

There was a line in a song I remember from the Vietnam era.
A father was talking to his son. It went something like “If you leave this country to avoid the draft, you might as well burn your birth certificate because from that moment on, I have no son.”
On edit: I accidently linked Bernie Ward's show!
