"You give them their story, they'll go away."
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 10:39 AM by buycitgo
Leslie Janka, who worked as a press officer who worked in both (Nixon and Reagan) administrations:
"They've got to write their story every day. You give them their story, they'll go away. As long as you come in there every day, hand them a well-packaged, premasticated story in the format they want, they'll go away. The phrase is 'manipulation by inundation.' You give them the line of the day, you give them press briefings, you give them facts, access to people who will speak on the record.... And you do that long enough, they're going to stop bringing their own stories, and stopping investigative reporters of any kind, even modestly so."

sound familiar?

this was Reagan.....things have gotten, what, worse, since then?

are the media waking from their torpor, or do they still ache for the chimp to win

just wait and see what happens after the debates

as Stan Greenberg said yesterday, Gore was 3-5 points ahead before the debates, then went down by five afterwards.

and you KNOW why.....the media INSISTED to all that they shouldn't believe their lying eyes.....that Bush won by avoiding voiding himself.

if it still matters by then, I'm very frightened.

also, if things are really desperate for the junta, god knows how long they'll wait to LIHOP/MIHOP again. what if they do it a week before the election? something really bad?

1. I think we have BOTH the "conveniently timed capture of Bin Laden"
AND LIHOP #2, with possibly some more anthrax or other sent to Democrats.

2. have you read On Bended Knee?
here's some more....all you need is repetition

One striking example of the way the White House public relations machinery-from the Blair House strategists down to press officers and event organizers-operated in nearly perfect synchronization was the public relations blitz on the theme of education that Deaver directed in 1983. In response to polls indicating a two-to-one public disapproval of Reagan's cutbacks in federal aid to education, the Blair House group ordered a communications offensive that emphasized "excellence in education," merit pay for teachers and greater classroom discipline. The end result was to reverse the polling figures to a two-to-one support for Reagan, without the actual Reagan policy changing at all.

"The President himself made some twenty-five-odd appearances on the issue of education," recalled Knight-Ridder correspondent Saul Friedman. "They understood that to shift the fulcrum of the debate, you have to do it with repetition, which the President is very good at."

Repetition was necessary because, in a modern electronic society, the messages that actually pierce the static and register on people's consciousness are those which are repeated over and over again. According to Deaver, this was one requirement of his salesman's job that Reagan groused about. "It used to drive the President crazy, because repetition was so important," said Deaver. "He'd get on that airplane and look at that speech and say, 'Mike, I'm not going to give this same speech on education again, am I?' I said, 'Yeah, trust me, it's going to work.' And it I did."...

Why else did they have Fat Tony kill the Fairness Doctrine (for which he was awarded TWO Supreme Court Seats) for them unless it was a lynchpin of their strategy?

They broke cover as they did permenently in 2000 to execute this task.

They did it for the opposite reasons of the men who wrtoe the original FCC Rules. Those men were trying to prevent the rise of Hitler or Stalin-type media in America.

As I said, Fat Tony's goal and all of the Imperial Family's goal has been the opposite.

And I just started reading that linked excerpt of "On Bended Knee". I'm afraid I have already intuited most of it, but I will read it to fill in the gaps of my factual knowledge.

4. zackly, and that is the TRUE, overriding legacy of that lameass actor
and his bunch of PR flacks

they control the message, with the complicity of the media hoes, and everybody thinks a buffoon like Boosh is a charming, likeable guy, comfortable in his own skin, who easily dons the mantle of HERO, when we get attacked by those monsters from Iraq...oops

5. it is easy to intiuit the substance of that book, BUT
Hertsgaard got a large number of the shills/enablers to go on the record, and say what they said for everyone's edification

the stuff the media admit is doubly sickening, cause they basically say they don't know why they did it, revealing just HOW lazy and corrupt they really are

they've wised up since then, and won't admit it, claiming they're just being unbiased; allowing both sides to get their messages out equally

right

6. oh, and tweety thinks Reagan was a fricking KING!
Chris Matthews, former press secretary to Democratic Speaker of the House Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill.
"They know the presidency is ideally suited for the television age, because it is one person, there is all the People magazine aspect- what is he like, what is Nancy like? It is amazing how the monarchy translates so well into the television age and legislatures do not."
