Drudge: Clinton and Carter left off Reagan Funeral Speaking List
Hate to post Drudge. But this should be an interesting discussion. Is this Royal Funeral being politicized up the yin/yang?

http://www.drudgereport.com/rr1.htm

Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."

The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.

Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.

Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.

3. BS story.....
"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."

This shit sounds like it was made up out of thin air.

4. I am convinced this is all In Drudge's Mind
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 02:09 PM by Justice
Drudge's spin - they were left off the list - instead of just - here is who is speaking.

And to say Clinton really held out all hope....

To say that Clinton was critical...

To say Nancy personally shut Clinton out.....

I don't buy it - it is the RW attempt to make an issue and say it is Clinton's issue. All because Clinton is so popular and his book is coming out and they know in a month, people will be talking about the book and not about Reagan.

19. Clinton may have wanted to speak, but he's not likely losing much sleep
over not being asked to.

6. Regardless of who the speakers are
I can't say that I'm sorry that the two Democratic former Presidents won't be eulogizing Ronald Reagan.

7. So Dubya will be speaking, huh?
I didn't think he even wanted to associate himself with Reagan, especially since people are likely to draw comparisons between Ronnie's charm and Dubya's lack thereof.

But then again, maybe that's the point.

9. Drudge always delivers!
I should have known this guy would find some way to post Clinton on his website regarding Reagan's death/funeral. Drudge probably took one little smidgen of comment about who speaks at Reagan's funeral and turned it into a developing sludge job.

12. This is a bunch of crap!
Reagan's funeral plans were finalized by Reagan himself in 1989 before he had Alheizmer's. At that point, he didn't even know Clinton very well.

I'm sure if Reagan hadn't gotten Alheizmer's, and had finalized his plans....say in 1995 or something.... that Clinton very well might have made the list.

This Nancy Reagan shutting Clinton out is a bunch of b.s. Nancy is only respecting her husband's final wishes by having those speakers speaking. Bush Jr. is only speaking because he's the current President.

13. Nixon's funeral
Clinton spoke, because he was the President. Otherwise, it was all Republicans. Billy Graham, Kissinger, Pete Wilson and Dole. This is much ado about nothing. Respect somebody's wishes for their own funeral. I sure as hell wouldn't want either of the Bushes speaking at Clinton's funeral.

15. Good!!! They knowTBD and Carter will outshine both dim bulb Bushes plus
Leaving them off gives us another bullet point to show that Rove is smarmily politicizing the funeral.

17. Hell, I'd be happier if Clinton didn't speak, Carter too.
What would they say, that Reagan was a great American and we'll all miss him? At least Clinton and Carter won't have to join in on the phony legacy building.

18. exactly!
If Clinton were to speak, I might have had to force myself to tune in to catch him spin gold, as he always does, when he speaks. This way, my TV will remain OFF as it has been since Saturday.

This shit can't end soon enough.
