I've heard much of the right wing outrage that we at this website have ...gasp... said unflattering things about Ronald Reagan following his death. Now, I know this might come as something of a shock to you, but, I think I can safely say that the overwhelming majority of members of this forum did not care for Ronald Wilson Reagan while he was alive.

I'm really not sure why you all would think that Reagan's death would suddenly prompt us to start heaping praise on him, or for that matter, even pretend that we thought he was a swell guy or a good President. A reasonable person might conclude from the name of this website, DEMOCRATIC Underground, that this might not be the place to come for teary-eyed tributes to the 40th President.

And as long as the right wing members of the media, such as yourselves, are heaping slavish praise upon the late President, it's only fair that the other side of the story be told and a balanced picture of the man's Presidency be presented.

And considering your collective record of trying to slime Bill Clinton in every way imagineable, both personally and professionally, for the past decade, I think you lost your right to be outraged about anything back around 1992.

On Edit: I speak only for myself, and not on behalf of DU.

5. Right on,
brother! I haven't said a word about the man now that he's dead that I didn't say when he was alive! The right-wing can shut up anytime!

6. It would be nice if instead of the lies
Reagan were remembered for something he actually did well.

Second banana to a chimp.

10. No, wait, let me be fair.
(I'm afraid I just can't resist a zinger -- a trait I understand Reagan shared.)

I'm sure Reagan did great things for the morale of the troops in WWII, when he served in the Air Force First Motion Picture Unit during World War II.

http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/history/wwii/rr.htm

Of course, that did keep him out of combat. Some other entertainers fought. for example, Zero Mostel served in the infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge -- in the same battalion as my father-in-law -- but, clearly, the brass felt Reagan was more valuable in the First Motion Picture Unit, where his unique skills would be effective, than fighting. He did apply for overseas duty.

9. The truth is their enemy.
They hate the truth, and they've spent the last twenty years trying to shove this "myth" about Reagan down everybody's throat.

And they've done it pretty well, seeing as how the media can't seem to stop fawning over this idiot.

Reagan was an embarrassment as a president, I was ashamed to be an American while he was president, and I never thought we'd have anybody MORE STUPID in the White House, but ...... alas, we do now.

The fact that Reagan would actually be preferable to GWB is what's truly shocking about all of this.

We have sunk to a low unforeseen even by the most negative imaginations.

12. Excellent, concise post!
I never thought I'd find a leader in our country that was more worthless and dangerous than the one that just died. And indeed, he far exceeds our most negative imaginations. Ah, what a wonderful world!

It's truly time for that Garfield movie.(my friday "day of mourning" plan)
