bwah-ha-ha! Orrin Hatch going around talking about stem-cell research.
There's also a gazillion articles about it on google news.

He's apparently Nancy Reagan's "point man" in Congress.

Pigheaded Bush is still refusing to reconsider his position. This could be good, folks. He'll really look like a jerk if he vetoes a bill. One more thing for the Repubs in Congress to rebel against. Anyone know if there's talk of a new bill being introduced?

But Hatch has a powerful political ally in his fight to reduce federal funding restrictions on stem cell research: Nancy Reagan. ...... "Orrin, there are so many diseases that can be cured, or at least helped, that we can't turn our back on this," Nancy Reagan wrote Hatch in a letter last year that he reproduced into a large poster and displayed during a Senate hearing promoting his therapeutic cloning bill. "We've lost so much time already," she wrote. "I can't bear to lose any more."

Hatch's bill had stalled the past year against intense opposition from the National Right to Life Committee, which Saturday hailed the late president as "an ever faithful friend to the pro-life movement."

1. But . . . but . . . what about the CHILDREN, Orrin?
More hypocritical bs from Clenchman, the amazing new superhero of the anal-retentive.

4. Repubs Are Backed Into A Corner W/ This Issue, And I Love It!
On one hand, you have the pharmaceutical/medical industry that desperately wants this research and pays big bucks to chimpy and on the other you have the religious whackos who oppose it and pay big bucks and vote for chimpy. Heehee...

5. Doesn't Hatch want new recommendations
from NIH? Will that help at all or make it worse for Bush?

8. Bet he'll do whatever it takes to make Nancy Reagan happy....
He'll continue to align w/her and it will be politically expedient for him. He'll do whatever it takes to make HER happy.

6. Amazingly enough,
the death of Reagan might put Bush in a precarious position (unfortuantely, 800+ deaths, mammoth deficits and lying to the American people does not put one in a precarious position) with Repubs. Accept the elegant Nancy's plea for stem-cell research, and you infuriate the right-to-lifers. You say no, you tick off those who loove Reagan...

Once again, it shows that Repubs do not think, nor care, about things until it effects them personally. It shows truly how out of touch they are.
