Democrat Jim Moran WINS the 8th District in Virginia !!
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 08:32 PM by amen1234

This was a real dirty-trick bush* campaign....a reTHUGlican-posed-as-a-Democrat (rosenberg) spent the whole campaign LYING about Jim Moran...the BIG lie was that Jim Moran was anti-Semitic...and THAT's NOT TRUE....notive that the opposition reTHUGlican for the November elections was chosen in a PRIVATE back-room deal, rather than a primary election....

it's also a significant WIN, because anyone from any party can VOTE in any primary...and Jim Moran fought back the reTHUGlican attack as reTHUGlicans clearly tried to get every reTHUGlican to vote against him....and Jim Moran WON...another BIG win for Virginia...

Kerry will WIN...we must all keep fighting the GOOD FIGHT, just like we did here in Virginia today....

Congratulations JIM !...off to the U.S. House of Representatives again....GO JIM...Virginia LOVES Democrats !!!

-snips-

Rep. James P. Moran Jr. won today's Democratic primary in Virginia's 8th Congressional District, defeating challenger Andrew M. Rosenberg in a contest that has focused more on personal issues than policy.

With nearly all votes counted, Moran led with 58 percent of the vote to 42 percent for Rosenberg, according to the Associated Press. Moran now faces Republican candidate Lisa Marie Cheney of Alexandria, who was chosen May 15 at a party convention.

In a brief victory speech, Moran lamented that "as many as 40 percent of alleged Democrats may have voted against me," pointing out to reporters afterward that his challenger had encouraged Republicans to vote against him in the primary. Virginia does not register voters by party, so any registered voter in the district could participate.

"If you don't have an issue and you don't have experience, you attack the other guy," Moran said, according to the Associated Press. "I don't like it."

14. Actually, it probably is.
FR constantly attacks Jim Moran, and his name of course makes him an obvious target. I'd be very surprised if that wasn't an inside jab at Moran that has been siezed by us as an example of the freepers lack of brain power. I bet they laugh at us everytime they read us coopt the moran tag.

16. No, Jim Moran is in Virginia...the freeper photo was taken in Illinois

preliminary look at elected officials in Illinois show nobody named Moran...

IMO, it was truly a brainless freeper who didn't know how to spell "MORON"....that's realy typical...I notice spelling mistakes frequently by reTHUGlicans....for the most part...freepers lack a lot of brain power...that's why rush limbaugh can play them for fools so much...rush even calls them 'ditto-heads', and they wear that title proudly....bush* himself bragged at Yale University commencement address that he got a low-C average and was PROUD of that lame performance....

yes, it's a fact....freepers are PROUD OF THEIR STUPIDITY....up to and including pResident shrub.....

21. I've lurked at a few right-wing message boards
And quite a few of them seem pretty illiterate. Most of them TALK ALL IN CAPS!!!!!! EVEN WHEN THEY ARE HAVING NORMAL CONVERSATIONS!!!!!

It gets annoying after a while, but I have this masochistic tendency to go to boards like that and try to start reasonable conversations with people, and it rarely goes very well. Go figure.

2. Hurray! I voted for Moran this morning!
But 58% is not a landslide. Perhaps it had something to do with recent coverage in the Post... disgusting in its support of Rosenberg.

5. no Democrat would vote for rosenberg (reTHUGlican in disguise)

40% were actual reTHUGlicans....

the 58% were Democrats !

that shows the split that you are NOW getting for Democrats...KERRY...in Virginia....

we're working very hard to let people know....bush* tried his dirty tricks here with reTHUGlican rosenberg and his LIES...and Virginians are tired of it....real real tired of bush* and KERRY WILL WIN VIRGINIA.....

Please don't spread LIES about Democrats....we just ran an honest factual positive campaign...and misquoting OUR candidate is pretty irritating at this point...'misquoting by OMISSION' is typical bush* LIES...

the actual quote from the WP, without your omission....

"If you don't have an issue and you don't have experience, you attack the other guy," Moran said, according to the Associated Press. "I don't like it."

Moran is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. I'll vote for him in November, like always, but the only LIE in this campaign was that Rosenberg was really a republican.

BTW, for those who DON'T live in the Virginia 8th and so haven't followed Moran, he's a hothead who got a sweatheart loan from MBNA, then voted for an anti-consumer bankruptcy bill that credit card companies like MBNA were supporting. That's when he's not grabbing 8 year old black boys by the throat because they make jokes about his nice car..

Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 09:01 PM by madfloridian
Dean said he would be loyal to those who are loyal to him. He said he would not be there if he thought Moran said such things. He for the first time I have ever heard reminded them that his wife was Jewish.
Trippi was at the meeting and said the guy lied.

17. Jim Moran supported Dean in the Democratic Primaries....

of course, since Dean lost...Jim is now supporting Kerry, which is a BIG reason that bush* and his cabal have slammed Jim repeatedly, and are now (in a backroom selection) has put up cheney's daughter to run against Jim....

we need help to beat back all the reTHUGlican money....come help in the upcoming campaigns...not only can KERRY WIN...but lots of other Democrats can win within Virginia elections...STAND UP....roll up your sleeves and VOLUNTEER TO SAVE AMERICA....

Steve Grossman and Bob Shrum had come out in support of Rosenberg. Howard Dean appeared at a couple of events for Moran.

I hope Moran wins in November. I sure as hell don't want another Cheney in Washington. :puke:

28. he said that American Jews were pushing us into war with Iraq....

according to this WP quote...somebody has to say it and it is very TRUE that American Jews pushed this Iraq war...all you have to listen to is Joe Lieberman tell everyone how absolutely glorious this Iraq war is....Jim Moran did several 'Town Hall Meetings' with his constituents...the Town Hall meeting in Alexandria was broadcast on C-Span, and for a fee, is available from C-span....IMO, the WP is also pandering to bush* by calling these meetings 'an antiwar forum'...that's just bull...I attended the one in Alexandria, and it was a panel discussion, with Jim Moran, vicky clarke (rumsfeld's press secretary) and a three star pentagon general...to call it an antiwar forum is just plain bull....so YOU can buy the C-span tape and listen to Jim's remarks, which he said were the SAME remarks he made at the Reston meeting: that the main push for the Iraq War was coming from American Jews....and I agree with that, and obviously, as shown today, so does a majority of the citizens of Virginia District 8....

This obvious truth does NOT mean that Jim is anti-semitic...it does mean that he tells the TRUTH that should be obvious to most Americans....

"In March 2003, Moran acknowledged saying at an antiwar forum in Reston that American Jews were pushing the county into war with Iraq."

19. reTHUGlicans are crawling all over DU lately....their tactics are
real slimy...they posted their tactics on freepers boards several months ago...their main idea is that if you keep it quiet up until 500 or 1000 posts, then you can say anything you want...

so they stack onto DU the daily rovian talking points....'little' suggestions, like KERRY CAN'T WIN, "Kerry is doing badly in polls", "I can't possibly vote for the scum Kerry, but if I have to, maybe I'll choke on it and do it"....most of these anti-DU people are real freepers....trying to undermine Kerry and today, Jim Moran....they are really pissed that they lost to Jim Moran today...undermined their own slimy campaign strategy....so they attack more here tonight....

luckily, tonight, in honor of Democrat Jim Moran...you can see exactly who they are....they have come roaring out of the woodwork, like cockroaches....just SHINE A LIGHT ON THEM, and they will scurry back to "eating their own" like cockroaches are prone to do...

these reTHUGlicans are losers: they are corrupt, KILLERS, and
con-men....just like reaguns...

23. In the words of Sherman T. Potter, "Mule Muffins!!!"
I've been a Democrat since I was born. I was campaigning for my mom when I was four (she won; I was cute). I was talking to Jay Rockefeller when I was six. I worked for Clinton. I know everyone on Robert Byrd's staff . . . .

And Moran is an embarrasment.

Have a nice day.

22. No,he has held the seat for a while.
He made the mistake of saying something about the Jewish interests being strong for the Iraq War. That is why Dean stuck up for him....he got treated the same way by Pelosi and bunch. Trippi was in the meeting, and he says the aide lied about it.
Dean endorsed, and he and Trippi appear for the first time in ages together.

25. Where are you getting your information
that Rosenberg is a Republican posing as a Dem and that a large precentage of Repugs got out to vote for him. This is flat out not true and completely ridiculous. First of all the turnout was very low and VA 8th is a very Democratic district. I worked the polls from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and there were no Republicans rushing to the polls to vote for Rosenberg. Your claim that Rosenberg is a Republican and that Republicans rushed out to support him in the VA open primary is as ridiculous as saying Jim Moran in an ant-Semite.

I voted for and worked for Jim Moran in this race.... I support him because he voted against the Iraq war resolution - which far too many Democrats couldn't bring themselves to do. Jim has done some things that I haven't been crazy about - however Andy Rosenberg ran his campaign mainly on the issue of Jim being an anti-semite. This all stemed from a town hall meeting Jim had before the Iraq invasion. At this meeting a Jewish friend of mine asked Jim a question to which he answered that there were some Jewish support of the war - I'm paraphrasing this conversation....now the people that were actually at the meeting - I was not - but know alot of people who were - did not go away with a feeling that Jim Moran had made and anti-semetic comment....other people who were not at the meeting blew this totally out of proportion and accused Jim Moran of being an anti-semite. I was not at that meeting but I was at another town meeting that Jim held regarding the invasion of Iraq and there were people there making nasty anti-semetic remarks and Jim Moran told them to knock it off and if they didn't he would have them escorted out. Jim Moran is not an anti-semite and Andy Rosenberg is not a Republican. Either of these men would have very simialr votes in Congress of that I am sure.

Early on there were other potential - better known - Democratic candidates considering a primary run against Jim - they decided against the run and I can only think they did this because they thought Jim would win....and so he has he will return to Congress as this is a VERY safe Dem district - I was redistricted into Jim's district as were several other Dem precincts - no worries Jim will go back to Congress.

29. If you had READ the article from the WP, in my first post,

then you might understand why rosenberg was such a liar, and such a reTHUGlican....

also, if you want to know exactly what Jim Moran said, it was all video'd and put on C-span at the Alexandria meeting, where Jim made his remark about Jews and later repeated the exact same remark at the nearby Reston town hall meeting....you can buy the video of the Town Hall Meeting in Alexandria, which was broadcast nationwide...

the remark is NOT anti-semitic...it is the TRUTH...Jim's remark was made during a series of Town Hall meeting BEFORE bush* started the WAR....

"In March 2003, Moran acknowledged saying at an antiwar forum in Reston that American Jews were pushing the county into war with Iraq."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A25332-2004Jun8_2.html

also, here's Jim's remarks about rosenberg reTHUGlicans, from WP:
