Democrats waiting until after Reagan funeral to go after Bush's memoranda
After watching the Democrats pummel Ashcroft today, we have to assume that they are not yet ready to drop this issue. This is important - to all of America. They will ask the White House for the memoes and the WH will probably refuse.

This White House, as proven by the photos from Abu Graib prison, has indulged in torture and humiliation that is expressly forbidden by the Geneva Convention. And Iraq is not the al Qaeda or the Taliban. Most of these "detainees" at the Abu Graib prison were guilty of nothing. Thousands have been released since the publication of the photos.

Out of respect for the moment, the Democrats will wait until Reagan is buried before they pursue Ashcroft's terribly poor performance on C-SPAN today. The Administration cannot give up the information that Congress will request because they will be putting the rope around their own necks if they do so. The Republicans on the Committee and in the Congress will pretend to go along with openness and truth-hunting, simply because it is getting so close to November and they are getting a little nervous about their possibilities ahead.

5. What about Warner?
He seems genuine enough.

Actually, this administration does the same thing every time: they wait until there's a groundswell of political/public pressure, and then they cave. And what they were hiding never lives up to what you hoped it would be. And you wonder why they went through all that in the first place.

Definition of insanity.

3. I'm scared about Friday
why did the junta cancel government on Friday?

Is Reagan really the only reason?

seems to me they have Big Reasons to try to postpone action in Congress. and Elsewhere.

Think it'll do them any good?

7. I hope your optimism is rewarded, Kentuck. The same thought went
through my mind reading the news articles here on DU about "TortureGate" memos and then watching the Asscroft testimony where he didn't look too confident, particularly when he had to talk with his lawyers about whether Bush had seen any other memos.

We've been burned so many times, it's hard to get one's hopes up again.
Hopefully somehow the Plame Leak, Chalabi and the Memos will all come together and this whole administration will be found guilty of Treason and High Crimes.

We dream on...and try to have hope.

10. Wonder who in the Justice Dept. leaked this? Pre-Emptive Release while
the Nation is wrapped up in the Reagan Memorial this week, meaning they hoped it would be ignored? Or, leaked by a low level staff member whistle blower?

Anyone else think it's odd that Asscroft's "sealed Justice Dept." was the leak for this?
