6. I was a ditthead until around 1994-95

When I started to realize that NONE of Limbaugh's dire predictions about Clinton were coming true, and I started to read a bit more. Actually, I was pretty liberal through high school, and then the LA riots (I lived close by in San Diego) caused something in me to snap. I became paranoid of blacks & crime, & perceived the democrats as being lax on crime. So my fear/panic reaction was much like what many wingnuts are experiencing now due to 9-11. I sorta feel for them. But then again, I was only 22 when the LA riots happened, a kid. A lot of these folks are old enough to know better...

Basically it was just the exposure to more information, namely access to the internet, sites like this, Daily Kos, ect. If you don't have anything to compare and contrast someone like Hannity against, and you already lean right of center to begin with, it's not that blaringly obvious that he's completely full of shit as it is to someone who has access to more media outlets. (just using him as an example)

"the left," until recently, didn't really have a strong and loud competing voice in the mainstream media. I'm thankful that that is beginning to change!

If you don't have the internet, and you live in bum fuck middle America, it really is a nightmare when it comes to politics.

12. my bro in law is a great guy and was a ditto head

one summer afternoon we were visiting the farm in E Washington(a 1500 mile journey for us) and he and I got to talking about gun control, Clinton and Rush etc. I saw him thoughtfully listen to what I had to say

the next year my MIL told me he no longer requested the Dittohead Letter as his birthday magazine subscription.

so I suppose he has found something else to listen to on the tractor

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I believe there is ineed a lot of truth in that. Kind of like the guy who's always talking about "them fags" almost always turns out to be gay. I think that is extremely analogous to right wingers.

I know we hate the chimp for all his evil policies and we can point to how he's screwed the country, but why would the freeps hate a man who was, at worst(to them), a moderate who enacted successful policies that helped a lot of people, including big business?

I actually do know that. I also know that some gay people (I am) also call one another "fags." I'm just so TIRED of people dividing themselves up into this group and that group against this other group over there. It keeps us all divided and agitated, fearful and defensive when not out right offensive. I just feel that if we human beings are going to weather the political, economic and environmental storms that are in front of us, we'd better learn to see ourselves as something that is extremely diverse and complex. We aren't any one race, class, nationality, religion or political stance or party. We all have a lot of differing opinions. We ALSO have a lot in common. In fact, our commonalities far outweigh our differences. This is one of those things rich people don't want us to know because it threatens their ability to keep the rest of us from demanding our fair share.
