1. We posted exactly at the same time! eliminated my link.
So the diarrhea of tributes for Reagan's death fueled by the repugs hasn't bumped Bush*'s ratings? Anybody has details?

Kerry With Slight Lead in Presidential Race
Bush's ratings still in low range of presidency

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup survey finds Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry enjoying a slight lead over President George W. Bush, while Bush's approval ratings remain relatively unchanged, but for the most part in negative territory. The president's continuing strength is in the public's perception of how well he is fighting the war on terrorism, while his performance ratings in other areas -- the economy, foreign affairs, the situation in Iraq, energy policy, and prescription drugs for older Americans -- all elicit higher disapproval than approval.

The poll, conducted June 3-6, overlapped news of former President Ronald Reagan's death. Some of the results reported here could be affected by this news.

The poll finds Kerry leading Bush in the presidential contest by 49% to 44% among registered voters, and 50% to 44% among likely voters.

Absolutely incredible. And they're calling this "close" and "relatively unchanged" ... with Kerry at 50% of likely voters to *'s 44%?

6. I think Bush might get some bump from the UN Resolution,
but it will be quickly be erased by the Kurds wreckage of the agreement and by the burgeoning torture memo scandal which dominates editorials in major papers this morning.

11. we have to wait until he gives the eulogy
the numbers released about a week after the eulogy will be more accurate in whether he gets anything from it. i'm just hoping they overdo the whole reagan thing for a few weeks and people get tired of it. and then by the time the democratic convention comes around it will be something new people want to see especially with the vp announcement. until then we can look forward to president clinton's book release and appearances to promote it.

16. No real surprise
Whatever one thought of Reagan, Bush is not Reagan. Reagan had a respect for the limits of presidential power that Bush does not possess. Reagan did not involve the US in a quagmire and withdrew forces from Lebanon when that situation threatened to become one; Bush would have "stayed the course".

Reagan had strong opinions, buy respected other people's points of view. Bush seeks to do personal harm to anyone who crosses him.

Bush presides over an administration riddled with conflict of interest; he has increased the size and power of the government; he has engaged in irresponsible government borrowing and spending with reducing tax revenues; his economic policies have held wages down and killed jobs; he has cynically used a national emergency to pursue goals in the name of national security that are irrelevant to national security; he has committed one of the greatest foreign policy blunders in history; he has shamed this country by staining it with crimes of torture and an unnecessary war of aggression. The passing of a 93-year-old man, whatever his virtues or vices may have been, doesn't change any of that.
