4. I've never had the need to worship a king
that some people seem to have. I admire Bill Clinton, but I would never slavishly dote on his coffin after he is dead. I don't understand that. Didn't we fight two wars with Great Britain so we wouldn't have to worship a king?

5. some caller on the Taliaferro show this morning
was disdainful of the way Bush will capitalize on this funeral to promote himself.

He said that Bush will walk his "cock a doodle do" and shed a tear or two.

Struck me funny the "cock a doodle do" imagery. It is exactly what he looks like--elbows out, palms facing backwards, and ass stuck out in order to keep balance in such an obvious unatural gait.

10. I cried when Diana died...her death brought my deeper sorrows to the
surface and I was able to release them...it had nothing to do with her...and I suspect some of those that cry at RR death are doing the same....a good cry works wonders.

Come January 05..I will cry with relief that our long nightmare is over.

the contrast between Reagan, especially the gauzy man on horseback now firmly enrolled in memory and Bush Jr. the stunted paunchy chimp-like sneak....will hopefully appall many many voters in due course.

Y'see any African American, Asian, Latino or Native American faces in them adoring throngs?

Well, I'll be damned. Another Great Communicator who spoke only to Aryan hearts? Who'da thunk it?

Heil Reagan.

26. I was also struck by the WHITENESS of Reagan's mourners and glorifiers....
the image projected has so very little to do with reality of what really constitutes Anerica.

I can only hope that this is the last death throes of an old-fashioned, inherently evil cultural power block.....

If not, I can only feel pretty hopeless. :-(

These are the same people that cheered when they were killed. They even bought little Uday and Qusay beanie babies of their disfigured bodies.

And Uday and Qusay hurt less people than Reagan did.

43. Phuck Ronnie Raygun and Woohoo for Ted Rall
and I'm shocked by all the Dems in here blubbering over one of the worst presidents in history. Having lived through his policies, and being personally hurt by his policies, I could care less that he's dead. I just wish his legacy and all his old cronies weren't still squatting in the white house as I write. He was a horrible president, and regardless of how 'cheerful' he was, he was still the start of what we are still paying for - including the rightwing freaks pulling Chimpy's strings.

I'm more than disgusted at this media love fest. And BTW, I think Ted Rall is 110% right on. Maybe not PC, but he's right.

45. kitschy melodrama
Some of them aren't so much paying their respects for the dead as they are trying to achieve a feeling of their own significance. They see themselves not as just participating in, but becoming a part of, an historical event. "Did you see me on the tee-vee?"

49. For all we know, the "stiff" itself is back in Calif. in a deep freeze
I don't really get the "viewing" of a coffin either.

I think this has been standard at the Kennedy and Johnson funerals though.

My guess is most people go just to get in on the whole pomp and circumstance of it all. I'd go if it were Clinton, just to swell the numbers a bit and piss off Tom Delay and buddies.
