A friend in Seattle sent this to one of his local papers today. Even if it doesn't get published, it's a good, succinct model of a letter to the editor:

To the Editor:

The Attorney General of the United States, supposedly the highest ranking law enforcement official in the country, has stood up in front of Congress and told them that George W. Bush is above the law.

In one stroke, the Executive Branch has sought to undermine not just the US Constitution that it is sworn to protect and defend, but the Magna Carta upon which most Western democracies are based.

It is long past time for the Congress of the United States to stop being a doormat to George W. Bush's White House.
