It's like the freaking Rose Parade!
A float, a grand marshall, bands, camera placements all along the route, talking heads reading little factoids on 3x5 cards ... it's the FREAKING ROSE PARADE!

:wtf: Unfreakingbelievable!

1. Cheering, adoring crowds, too!!!
What in the hell are they CLAPPING for? Don't my countrymen even understand the meaning of the word "somber"? ;-)

5. a British theatre critic once slammed Canadian audiences ...

... for applauding when the curtain went up to reveal the scenery for Act 1. I'm glad that we aren't alone in the "inappropriate clapping".

p.s. I actually agree when the more New-Age clergy say things like "we should celebrate the life of the deceased" -- which I guess in this case would mean recognizing that Ronnie was an actor. But still! Doesn't feel like other state funerals I've seen.

6. I guess if you plan a carnival...
...complete with marching bands and an arthritic diva waving from the back seat of the limo, then a carnival is what you get. :-)

(Wonder if anyone was strolling the route selling glowing neckaces, flags, and deely boppers.

3. Earlier, it was like a rock concert...
All the Reagroupies in Cali were discussing how they arrived at the library at 5:00 this morning to be first in line to see the coffin--each with stories about how Reagan had "been a part of my life for so many years."

Reminded me of groupies. :-)

12. Every time they move the rotting corpse, they'll have a "ceremony".
That's what's filling the six days (instead of the 3 for JFK and LBJ) ... CEREMONIES. Nancy is the Grand Marshall and DimSon is the Master(bater) of Ceremonies.

Nobody, but NOBODY! applauded, cheered, or yelled "Hi Jackie!" along the route at JFL's funeral cortege. Nobody. You could've watered the laws of the Capitol for a week with the tears that were being shed.

This is a circus ... a rose parade ... nothng but entertainment.

9. Which float won the Jury Prize?
Was it:

"Iran-Contra, Iran so Far Away"
"Do do that voodoo economics that you do so well"
or
"Consequences, schmonsequences, as long as I'm rich?"

10. Stealing the tragic Kennedy imagery ...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 05:48 PM by Ewan I Bushwackers
... and adding the vacuous Reagan pomp. This really pisses me off.

What a slap in the face of all the families who lost loved ones in Iraq -- loved ones shipped home in coffins that couldn't even be photographed. Sure, let's pull out all the stops at taxpayer expense for this idiot-actor President from the 80s.

Too bad the cicadas aren't swarming, sending everyone screaming for cover....
