Sam Donaldson skewers * publicly.

He just said that Reagan (and Clinton) would have been there to place medals on the coffins of our soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, unlike Bush.

1. I saw that!
And it seemed like Peter Jennings was a little taken aback. I hadn't remembered how Reagan did honor every single dead soldier and the astronauts who died, too. Such a contrast to Bush and Sam dramatized it.

2. You would have to hire armed guards to keep Clinton away from
the funeral of a soldier. Compassion came easily to him.

8. amen! did you read Richard Clarke's book?
when flight 800 crashed, he went to the airport and met with the families of the victims for HOURS.

a reporter asked one of them, basically, how much of a phony PRICK Clinton was, and they said he was fantastic, hugging people, empathizing with them

Secret Service had a COW

he also made sure the Lockerbie victims had a spot at Arlington.....forced them to do it

Clarke's book is one of the best I've ever read, specially on politics, or however one would like to characterize it

9. Right now I'm reading Joseph Wilson's book--it's very good--
but Clarke is lined up after "Ghost Wars" and "House of Bush, House of Saud".

5. Wasn't Sam Sort Of Put Out To Pasture?
I am beginning to think the "liberal" media wanted him off the TV because he so often expressed his views.

6. Sam Gets In His Last Shots
I have this vision of the caisson rolling down Constitution Ave. and Donaldson yelling one last question at it.

Politically, ya gotta love Sam. He set the tone in the 80s that kept Raygun from getting the lapdog media crap Bunnypants gets today. He also kept Will and the Cokester in check as well and now is one of the few that can outshout Tweety.

That said, Sam also is goofy. I can't put my finger on it, but there's always been something about this guy that one loves to hate. Maybe it's the abbrasive style or the past rug or the smarminess, but there was just something that makes Sam come off these days as someone's crazy old relative...dragged out on the weekends to keep him from exposing himself in the schoolyard.

Rant done...Congrats Sam...this regime has no respect for either history or protocol; attempting to turn this non-event into some kind of politico-religious orgy.
