All day I've heard media types saying that there is this outpouring for Reagan because he represents a time when there was no acrimony (at least not by today's standards) and that Americans are hungry to put the partisanship behind them and unite as Americans.
Well, we all know where the partisanship is coming from. It started in earnest with what the Republicans did to and are still trying to do to Bill Clinton -- and it is thriving in this Rove-based, vengeance-filled administration of George the Pretender.
My point is that the almost completely negative campaign of Bush/Cheney may suffer (even worse than it has been lately) in light of the Reagan glow. All the talk about Reagan's congeniality and compassion, which is blown way out of proportion, no doubt, may cause the people on the fence to take an even more jaundiced view of the Pretender and his corrupt Regent.
They'll look at what we have now, the Boy King and the illegal war, the secrets, the lies, the torture, the pure evil of it all. Boy George can't look good in comparison to Saint Ronnie.
Also, people keep hearing from the pundits that the electorate threw out Jimmy Carter, who was a "nice guy" because they were frustrated that the Iranian hostage crisis wasn't solved. What is the electorate in general going to think about Iraq? Not hostages, but 800+ dead soldiers, with no end in sight.
BTW, I thought Kerry's visit to the Library yesterday was brilliant.
