Freepers and the French
I was searching the hallowed pages of freerepublic when I came upon the usual French bashing thread. One of the morons wrote about how he hoped to see the end of "Fr*nce" to which about 10 of them instantly responded to the tune of, "you already have", "unless you have just died...", "Gaulistan" etc. etc.

Do they not realise France is actually a richer country than Britain, the only European country they can stand, other than Poland?

Seriously they are clueless.

What is with the hatred? Maybe some AMericans can cast some insight onto this, We English hate them (and I don't count myself in this) because of the history of wars we've had with them dating back to the Hundred Years War and presumably after Sunday, the kicking they are going to give our national football team in Portugal.

1. Freepers are clueless about history
They probably don't even know that they owe their country's independence to the crucial intervention of France during the Revolutionary War.

2. I think it's just sheer ignorance.
They were told to hate them by Fox News and the GOP, so they do. They don't realize that France was our friend during our Revolution. As far as the 'surrender-monkey' taunts go, I don't think they realize the price France paid in blood during World War I or how badly she was betrayed by Vichy during WWII. We Americans have never faced similar situations, so we need to respectfully hold our tongues.

7. Yes, and...

since so many freepers drive around in vehicles adorned with Confederate flags, do they not know that France helped out the Confederacy by continuing to process their cotton and trade arms with them? And help them circumvent their blockaded ports?

Ungrateful twits.

4. Faux News
It's because of Faux News and the whole Right Wing bullshit telling them to hate France. Even those two fucking Congressmen did the whole "Freedom Fries" thing; too stupid to even know they're Belgian.

I remember O'Reilly once spewed forth on his show that the French had never done anything for the US. The Revolution notwithstanding, I'm sure he's right; after all, he's got a degree in History, and I'm positive he worked just as hard for that as he did for those two Peabody awards.

8. They are ignorant
I bet before the second UN resolution they thought France was the capital of Italy, and if asked to point them out on a map would point to Canada.

I also remember when someone pointed out they were in Afghanistan, the reply was that they were only their in their country's own interest, unlike the US who only ever acts selflessly, just look at the Lend lease program.
