Most Reagan Mourners are overweight, some disrespectful of flag
The AP photo linked below clearly shows that a considerable majority of this morning's (Thursday) Reagan mourners in line at the Capitol are corpulent.

Worse yet, two of the mourners are showing disrespect for the flag by wearing it. Of course, they are both significantly overwieght.

The photo also calls into question the media claims that "thousands" of mourners have come to the Capitol. The people in line are loosely scattered in a way that suggests a rather modest turnout.

Here is the link to the photo and its caption:

1. What does people's weight matter?
That's just a cheap shot and un-called-for.

Now wearing the flag as clothing? That's fair game.

overweight.

2. So?
There are fat and skinny people across the political spectrum. Are you one of those who view obesity as a character flaw rather than a health issue?

27. No, but this is NOT a slam on overweight people
Full Disclosure: I'm 25 pounds overweight, and I readily admit it.

The AP photo shows that most of the people in the sparse line were overweight. I found that surprising since that's well above average.

More full disclosure: I don't believe people should wear the flag as clothing, as two in the AP picture were. I plead guilty for my somewhat conservative views on the matter.

My post also notes the sparse line. Another thread linked below has numerous photos which also show the sparse turnout for paying respects to Reagan.

Can we say, "Media HOAX"?

7. Can "we" be any more hateful?
I'm ashamed at some DUers lately that fixate on obesity as the ultimate insult. There are plenty of obese (and thin) liberals and progressives.....

This attitude is extremly depressing.... Democrats, the party of the "tolerant?" Yes, indeed...

unless you really want to hurt those DUer colleagues, who may be fighting obesity as well?

12. ?
So, since I'm overweight, I must be pro-Bush and pro-Pepsi?

That's ridiculous.

I actually don't watch a lot of TV, exercise moderately, and eat a decent(not great) diet. I'm still overweight.

I also don't buy into the "Bush is great" hype.

It's so much easier to blame TV than try to deal with the root causes. Whether it's obesity or violence in our society.

15. America is overweight
so it's not surprising that the people lining up to mourn Reagan are. I watched CSPAN this morning and what struck me is that I did not see one African-American or anyone else who did not appear to be "white". I expect we'll see a more diverse crowd when Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton is mourned. I certainly hope so. It's sad to see one more way we're so polarized.

Why do you think we call them "fat cats"? Sorry I can't help it. Five days of Raygun worship is making me weird. :)

29. I once read
that when the Republicans took over Washington, the dress stores knew to stock larger sizes as the Repub. wives tend to be more, uh, voluptuous than the Dems. Also, the journalists have noted that you call tell Repubs from Dems visually. Dems have "better" hair and shoes. (what? better hair than Trent Lott? How could that be?)Helmet head and Wed. night buffet at the church...Repubs. Hair without a can of spray and clothes the CSI staff might wear...Dems. It's that easy.

19. It's important because now we know what they did with their
TAX CUTS. They ate them. This blows the theory that tax cuts help the economy. Tax cuts only help the fast food industry. The Raygun mourners are living proof of that. We need to help them lose weight by raising they're taxes back up to where they were when they were skinny years ago. It's for their own good. :)

20. I understand
Jack Cafferty said this morning on CNN (which I have been meaning to write him about)because I normally like what the guy says - but on commenting about the protestors at the G8 summit - said something to the effect of "I guess they don't have a job".

My comment would be that I guess these people who have time to stand in line for 5 hours must not have jobs either. Its just the nasty environment that we live in - which Bush & his minions have exascerbated.

The OP (who has vanished, BTW) and a certain other poster here do not deserve "niceness". Don't worry about being mean - they didn't.

Why, I was just thinking of posting some un-nice things myself, like "dickhead", "dumb fuck", and "douchebag", but I just hadn't gotten around to it.

25. Weighing in
I'm going to try to be very careful with my words here so this won't get deleted.

Do you weight monitors practice this in public as well? Are you pound nannies the ones pointing fingers, snickering, giggling and saying things like 'OMG! would you look at that fat pig? Oink. Oink.' or 'Ewww. That's disgusting!'

I figure they have to come from somewhere. I also figure there is something sorely lacking in their upbringing.

In the spirit of fairness, I think that anyone who calls attention to the physical appearance of others in order to ridicule should post their (undoubtably perfect) images along with that post so we could all behold and pay tribute to their perfection. It would also give everyone a chance to acknowledge the ideal image we should strive to achieve.

At the very least, could you post what is acceptable in your eyes. We're all (I'm just positive) awaiting and anxious for your approval.

I'm sure we would all just love to be perfect in your eyes (it's so important, don't ya know?), but to put it simply, it doesn't work that way.

Going to stop now before I get ugly about this. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that when chemotherapy took my hair, you were one of those kind enough to point out, 'Oh, gross, that woman is bald!' snicker snicker.

FU,
soup

26. Uh, nice...
I think pretty much everyone covered the "overweight" comments nicely, so I won't retierate. However, if you remember, Ray-gun is in the capitol - shown in your picture. Suggesting that "not many" turned up because of the way the people pictured are situated is ignorant at best. Imagine how long the line is to get from where they are standing, to the capitol to see the coffin. Seems like a "lot" to me.

28. This thread is pointless
Capitol Hill police are expecting about 100,000 people to see the coffin, same amount as in CA.

Lines that long are never uniformly dense anyway. You are being disingenous, nodictators.
