I don't like the "National day of mourning any more than you do, but I still remember the JFK assasination and I think we had the Feds closed then too.
Let the Pubs have their day, and maybe they;ll shut up for a while.
5. How about for Eisenhower, Johnson and Truman? Or Nixon?
Those are the standards I'd gauge by. Kennedy's assassination was a trauma in a way the others were not. He was taken--violently--in the middle of his term. The nation needed to absorb that in a way it didn't need to with the deaths from old age of the others.
I still don't know if this is protocol, even after reading a NY Times article allegedly about "Precedent."
9. Chicago Tribune says some banks here will be open...
...but that means others will be closed. State, city and county offices here are open, even though Gov. Blagoevich yesterday admitted he voted twice for Ray-goon.
