i'd like some answers please. about some things that have not been mentioned in a week. torture, iraqi mothers in prison forced to watch their children being raped while u.s. soldiers laughed and filmed it. i'd like to talk about this matter please mr. bush, when you can find the time between fundraisers and clearing brush and making lousy speeches.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS ALL ABOUT.

and i want this stupid fucking war declared lost and over.

16. Couldn't find anything on this subject for Seymour Hersh
I've been using computers for a long time, and I searched for anything including his name, and I found no links that justified this statement.

I deal in facts, not hearsay. I have a lot of main stream sources to feed off of every day, and I missed seeing anything specifically on your "Iraqi women forced to watch rape of their children" subject.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,119632,00.html

GENEVA — The United Nations children's agency said Tuesday it was "profoundly disturbed" by reports that children may have been abused in prisons in Iraq.

"Any mistreatment, sexual abuse, exploitation or torture of children in detention is a violation of international law," UNICEF (search) spokesman Damien Personnaz said.

"UNICEF is profoundly disturbed by news reports alleging that children may have been among those abused."

NBC reported last week that unreleased videotapes, apparently shot by U.S. personnel, showed Iraqi guards at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison (search) raping young boys. British newspapers have reported that children were tortured under interrogation.

20. I'm With the 7-Poster
Mopaul, I'm not saying it's outside the realm of possibility, but what, exactly, is the source this accusation has been tracked to?

Until we have a definitive source, it's hearsay. An article that was used as a source in a different thread doesn't say a single damn thing about rape in it, let alone child rape. From everything I've seen, someone is going by assumption. And that's just so uncool.

33. Blog reports e-mail about Hersch appearance at U of Chicago . . .
http://www.j-bradford-delong.net/movable_type/2004_archives/000987.html

The blog reproduces an e-mail allegedly describing Hersch comments that closes with this paragraph:

He (Hersch) said that after he broke Abu Ghraib people are coming out of the woodwork to tell him this stuff. He said he had seen all the Abu Ghraib pictures. He said, "You haven't begun to see evil..." then trailed off. He said, "horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run."

That's it. Nothing else substantiates story. Please note that Hersch did not say there were photos of kids being raped!

13. The prison story is fairly slow-moving
The repukes would have you think that things are be handled quickly and punishing all those responsible, but this couldn't be further from the truth. I've watched all week the Reagan-Fest and as usual wondered if time and money would be better spent doing some legwork and investigation of prisoner abuse and how far and high it goes. We all know it goes to the top but the media would just rather this ride itself out. It's easier just watching Reagan getting buried and admiring how Nancys' holding up.

15. I'm afraid it's going to take a while yet, mopaul.
It will be a few more hours until they put him on the right side of the ground; and then you must allow several days for the idolators to treat his corpse like my golden retriever used to treat my leg. Then and only then can we move on to such a trivial subject as the STATE SPONSORED and ADMINISTRATION APPROVED rape and torture of children before the anguished eyes of their mothers.

then we have a problem of monumental proportion on our hands.

somewhere, someone's head will have to roll over that. perhaps even literally. it's just a matter of how far up the chain the roll-er has to be.

personally, i can't believe our military, which in our parents' day was looked at as a liberator and a symbol of good, has fallen so far.

and, of course, we all know under whose administration this kind of lawless crap began to be condoned.

maybe i just don't want to believe regular g.i.s, especially non-professional soldiers like reservists, would pull shit like that.

50. Let me tell you what I know...
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 03:48 PM by Solly Mack
In Iraq there are nomadic clusters called Gypsy camps. In these camps are brothels. In these brothels are children being sold for sex.

How do I know this?

My husband is military and an officer within his own company was relieved from duty for, among other things, taking bribes from these "gypsy" camps. Said bribes to include cash, booze, and sexual favors.

My husband was standing right there in the police station (IPS) when the proof came down.

Now, it's not a long stretch to go from a GI buying sex with a child via a "brothel" (which is still rape)...to a GI raping (which is a means of torture) a child within his control to further torture the parent.

the officer in question is still walking free....oh, his career is over..but gee, getting fired for rape is not what I would call true justice for such a horrible crime.

and for the benefits of freepers: PLEASE. PLEASE. try and attempt to cause my husband trouble by my posting this...the investigations into the FULL wrong doings by this officer seem to have been all but halted..so any attention you bring to me or my husband will only serve to help to draw the spotlight back on this officer and the crimes he committed.

Our military raped during ww2. Ask the French. Ask the Italians. Ask the Germans. They raped during Bosnia...place called Sohpies. "Brothel" -with women who were held captive for the purpose of sexual favors (some were even "sold" to GI's)... children, as well.

Our soldiers rape in Korea, Japan...just wherever they are stationed. For anyone to think this began under Clinton just goes to show how incredibly stupid they are....

For as long as there have been militaries....there has been rape by soldiers. It's just that simple.

49. Remember the photos of the little girl with her feet blown off?
Remember the boy who lost his parents and his arms in the first days of The War?

There were and are so many pictures of atrocities. There's one here on the net somewhere of a small child, dead, covered in the gray dust of concrete.

and no one resigned over that. no one's head rolled (except maybe Nick Berg's, and maybe I don't feel quite as sorry for him as I ought to). The Abu Ghraib pictures didn't result in much, except the court-martialing of a few enlisted personnel.

and the American people haven't risen up and demanded any resignations. so what makes any of us think the release of photos of U.S. military personnel raping an Iraqi child in front of its mother will make any difference? what makes any of us think the U.S. electorate will demand an investigation, demand to see that justice is done?

The only justice this country seems to understand is the justice of revenge. There were plenty of demands for biblical-style justice -- or, for that matter, qu'ranic-style justice -- after Sept. 11. Kill 'em all, they murdered our folks, we gotta get even. But outrage over dead Iraqis? Fergeddaboudit. Where's the outrage over the "situation" in Darfur? How long did the Ethiopian famine go on before we finally did something about it, way too late for too many victims. how long did the Holocaust go on before we took notice? How long has the killing gone on in DR Congo? As long as it did in Rwanda? what about Biafra? Anyone remember that one? Or what about St. Ronnie's turning a blind eye to apartheid in South Africa?

Don't hold your breaths for the outrage; it ain't gonna happen, not without some major support from the television media to put those pictures out there, day after day, night after night, network after network.

Too many of us "Americans" are too damn comfortable. We don't actually want to DO anything, and certainly not give up one iota of our comfortable lifestyle that's been acquired on the backs of the less fortunate. DU maybe somewhat of an exception in that at least most of us seem to be aware of the gross injustices. But beyond our little cyberplayground?

it's not nice out there in the real world. not nice at all.
