Truly freakin' awful.

June 10, 2004
Is the Abu Ghraib case about to really break?

From Kleiman's blog:
http://www.markarkleiman.com/archives/torture_/2004/06/is_the_abu_ghraib_case_about_to_really_break.php
Two huge developments today:

The New York Times reports that the two-star general in charge of the investigation, forbidden by Army regulations from investigating the behavior of anyone above himself in rank, has asked to be replaced for that reason, and that a four-start is expected to be appointed. This follows his previous request for an extension of time to complete the investigation, which apparently resulted from the change of heart by a witness who had previously refused to cooperate.

And Brad DeLong relays an email correspondent's account of a talk by Sy Hersh at the University of Chicago:

He said that after he broke Abu Ghraib people are coming out of the woodwork to tell him this stuff. He said he had seen all the Abu Ghraib pictures. He said, "You haven't begun to see evil..." then trailed off. He said, "horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run."

Children? That tears it.

That's going to be too strong even for the stomachs of the Bush-worshippers.
*****

I want to know more about this, if possible.

2. I tried too. It is so frustrating... The University of Chicago does not
have a transcript and they forbade filming of the lecture...

6. Seymour "Sy" Hersch is a reporter for the New Yorker
As far as I know, he does not have a blog, but you can probably find an email address for him on the New Yorker site. Hersch has broken all of the big Abu Ghraib stories (CBS only went forward after they learned that Hersch's story was going to press on the initial story), and has published several hard-hitting stories on the entire Iraq debacle. Hersch's investigative reporting dates back decades--he's one of the elder statesmen of print journalism.

7. Rumors
I have been reading rumors about this all day and all I can say is I hope it isn't true. I won't believe it until I see it. How could adults, miltiary types who pride themselves on honor, do something like this AND film it? It's too sickening.

18. Dang! That's weird!
To tell the truth, I'm used to seeing a "C" in that name myself.
Sometimes I'll do a "google spell-check"...google it one way and then the other and see which gets more hits. Sot of democratic, that way! :D
I'm up for a beer...that CACI thing has me on edge still. :toast:

8. This has to be someone's idea of a sick joke.
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 06:32 PM by Career Prole
There's no coincidence this big. No way.
I was trying to find contact information for Sy Hersh so I googled "contact Seymour Hersh" and look what I got...

http://www.crows.org/joinCorporate.htm

Scroll down and you'll find CACI Technologies Inc.

CACI Technologies Inc.

Fax: 732-578-5201

AOC contact: Seymour Hersh

And we know who CACI is. I feel more soiled than after seeing freeper threads.
:scared:

If I just disappear after today make sure there's an investigation...
I've got kids.

16. Hersh has never been an employee of CACI. Hersh's entire career...
...has centered around journalism.

Yes, it is a coincidence.

19. I'd still go with sick joke over coincidence, MLD
I find it tough to believe that there'd be another Seymour Hersh working at CACI, home of the Abu Ghraib MI abusers.
