George H. W. Bush said he learned kindness from Reagan
I love these guys; they're such skunks that you don't even have to make it up. (This is from his eulogy.)

Sounds like Poppy must have been awfully bemused to learn of the existence of such a novel concept. Kindness. Really? You mean folks really have this stuff? That's great; we should be able to exploit the snot out of THEM.

It speaks volumes when you think that Bush learned "kindness" from someone who's concept of it was "means tested" at best. (What I meant by that is that social pecking order determines one's deservedness of niceness; apparently, Ronnie learned all the wrong lessons from Hollywood.)

Too bad Bush didn't actually embrace the concept, instead of just learning of its existence. WAAAY too bad that Junior still needs an education.

These guys just hang themselves with their own words.

4. sorta like learning color matching
from a blind man.

And it shows. W knows nothing about kindness. And he learned it all from the best president the GOP ever turned out.

6. LIE: A murderin Lying Totalitarian Scum like Poppy has NEVER
known what klindness is.

They lie about EVERYTHING, don't they?

Hey Poppy, was Raygun's teaching you about kindness the reason you wanted him dead in 1981, or was it just the thought of an 11-year Imperial Term?

LIARS!

7. Poppy might be telling the truth here, to some extent.
Surely even Reagan must have been able to figure out who Hinckley was working for, yet he let Poppy serve out 8 years AND be his successor to the throne, instead of spending the rest of his life in Leavenworth for attempted murder of a President. I guess that counts as "kindness"

9. Sometimes Gangsters admire that kind of thing
Shows ya got some gumption. (And in the case of Bush, that'd be Forrest Gumption. I'll grant that Jeb's not an idiot, but 41 and 43* are circuitry challenged.)

Crime bosses know their underlings are larcenous, and if they're not skimming, they're losers. Nixon always scoffed that Poppy was the kind of person you appoint to something; maybe Reagan thought this showed the kid wasn't just a lazy rich boy.

I'm kidding, of course; I think Reagan lived in a state of amiable denial, and when hearing rumors or proof of this, he would have chalked it up to "overzealous friends working without Bush's knowledge" or just fictitious rumors. Who knows?

14. He didn't. It's not a Republican kinda thing.
Sorta like local option. States Rights.

Thanks for posting that; I was pretty damned sentient--hence ANGRY--during the eighties, but I never heard anything but glancing references to this moment. Sunlight truly IS the best disinfectant.
