U.S. Army Artillary in downtown San Diego!
I was on my way back to the office from my lunchtime walk when 4 U.S. Army Humvees full of soldiers, and each towing an artillary piece drove by on Pacific Highway! Right in DT San Diego.
This is mostly a Navy and Marine type town. I don't know of any army facilities around here at all. Weird. Then I realized they were headed in the direction of the Convention Center and the light bulb appeared over my head. That's where Shrubby is hosting his $2000/plate fundraising dinner tonight! It must be for protection against us librul peace-loving protestors who are planning a get-together there ourselves tonight. Well, right across the street, that is.

1. Are you sure the aren't Marines?
The nearest significant Army facility is Fort Irwin out in the Mojave Desert.

2. Yeah...
Bonehead is having his fundraiser at the Convention Center later on. We do have an Army National Guard unit up in Kearny Mesa, I believe, so this gives them something to do.

3. Yes, could be the NG
That's the facility from which the crazed meth head stole a tank a few years ago.

5. Longer than that.
Wasn't that at least three or four years ago? Before the boneheads stole office, I'm sure.

7. Yeah, but..
There was U.S. Army painted on the side of the artillary peice. Would the National Guard have that?

10. Gotta be.
I just asked my son, who recently got out of the Army, and he said for sure they're NG. There's nothing else Army around here.

4. Or maybe they're tired of what AWOL is doing to the troops and the vets --
'Hey, Dubya, we got these cannons trained on the Convention Center. Now, about the cuts to the VA, the failure to extend tax cuts to military families that make under $26k, and keeping 140k of the troops in Iraq with no end in sight.'

I mean: what good would cannons be for crowd control (other than water cannons)?

6. t'd seem like howitzers might be tad excessive for the job
If they're security for Bonsai's appearance. They might as well just call in an airstrike.

15. The event starts at around 6-6:30 PST
But the doors to the Convention Center open at 4 pm.

Ha Ha. Even the conservatove SD Union Tribune had a small article in its paper yesterday, saying where and when the protestors will rally, and who is organizing it. Finally. A little press for those guys:

http://www.activistsandiego.org/

I'll be going over there right after I get out of work in 30 minutes or so and see what's up

17. Couple of things here...
NG equipment will state that it is US Army, htere might be some CANG markings, but those would be on the vehicles, and barely noticeable unless you know what to look for, (i.e. HQ03-1/317FA, or some such).

I would hope, they were on some other mission other than going to the bush fund raiser, that would be about as tacky as one coould get. If the bush people think that some kind of military presence is necessary for this shin-dig, they are in some serious crap. That would be the WORST PR move anyone could make.

So...for those whoi can take a peek at the bush site, fill us in if the NG showed up with artillery for this; and if they did, try and get some pictures...Most opf us would be ecstatic to find out that bush is so scared of a few protesters, he had to bring in the big guns, LOL!
