Anyone catch the shot Ron Jr took at Bush Jr?
He said his father believed he had received a calling from God to do good work, BUT NOT A MANDATE.

Wasn't it Bush Jr who said God elected him and told him to invade Iraq?

Direct hit!

:silly:

25. It won't be over the heads of our military (Ron's quote is in Stripes)
http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=22722

After sharing some reminiscences, son Ron Reagan veered into a politically sensitive area by seeming to deliver a warning to President Bush and other politicians who talk about their religious faith at political events.

Ron Reagan said his father was "a deeply, unabashedly religious man, but he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians, wearing his religious faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage." He added that while Reagan "came to believe that God had spared him" from a 1981 assassination attempt, he concluded that the divine intervention left him with "a responsibility, not a mandate — and there is a profound difference."

5. oh yeah ...
Ron Jr. is the only one of those Reagans I can stand. I was yelling, "I LOVE you" at the screen when he made the "religion on the sleeve" comments.

Woo hoo! I fell for Ron Jr. when he did the Tom Cruise "Risky Business" dance, in his underwear, on SNL years ago! AND he's a HOOT!

11. The other was that his father had faith, but didn't wear it on his sleeve
for political gain.

8. When Kerry debates Bush
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 10:36 PM by napkinz
Do you think after Bush tries to align himself with Reagan, Kerry will use the classic "You're no Reagan?

I'm sure he'll be tempted to.

Edit: I got it. To avoid being trite, Kerry should say, "You're no Bush ... Senior."

9. I saw that and I agree. He seemed to be trying to
separate his father and his beliefs from what the Repukes and Bush want to use his father's death for political gain.

I heard today that people (Repukes) are supporting the slogan for Bush's reelection to be, "Win this one for the Gipper."

Hannity thought it was brilliant then brought up us Dems would have fits because we would claim they were capitalizing (or trying to) on Reagan's death. Well, DUH!!! Ronald Reagan has been sick for over 10 years. Why wait until his death to win one for the "Gipper."

Then he brought up Wellstones Memorial Service that turned into a rally, and how utterly sickening that was. I watched that from beginning to end, and Wellstone's own sons started the rallying part of the memorial. Up until then, there were speaches and memorials honoring Mr. Wellstone, his wife, and his daughter. The rallying part started after all the memorial speeches were given. And his sons said their dad would want to see people working together to make this country a better place. His sons claim the memorial went exactly as they felt their father would want it. Aren't they the ones to make the decisions . . . not the Republicants.

Ron Jr., was making a point and STRONGLY put it out there. I like when he said that his father DID NOT wear his religion on his sleeve for political purposes like SOME politicians do.

Do you think Bush picked up on that? Nah . . . he was already tucked in the bed by that time.

18. Ron is part of MSNBC team
He does "color commentary" on politics, and is EXTREMELY entertaining.

He also does commentary at those Eukenuba dog shows on Animal Planet, and is really fun to listen to on THERE, as well. He knows his canines as well as his politics (and he has no patience with assholery in politics, that's for sure!!!)

19. to summarize the salient points ...
... Ron Jr. said that his father didn't make the mistake so many politicians today make of wearing religion on his sleeve. He said he was a man of faith, who when he was shot, believed God spared him in order to do good. "But he accepted that as a RESPONSIBILITY, NOT A MANDATE ... and there is a PROFOUND DIFFERENCE."

He said it with such a tone that you could not fail to see it was a shot at chimpyville!

21. link to ron reagan jr. speech
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 11:15 PM by gauguin57
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGB793I6DVD.html

The best part:

"Dad was also a deeply, unabashedly religious man. But he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians, wearing his faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage. True, after he was shot and nearly killed early in his presidency, he came to believe that God had spared him in order that he might do good. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference."

The freepers got what he was talking about ... some of them are pissed off, making jokes about Ron coming out of the closet after Nancy dies, etc.

22. So they are already trashing the man's son before his body
even gets cold.

Now how is that different from others who have criticized Reagan this week?

Obviously, as usual, they cannot even see their own hypocrisy.

I guess once an idiot always an idiot.

I think we should all go over there and have a little discussion this morning with them.
