Boston Globe/Knight Ridder: Ron Reagan sent a warning to President Bush
After sharing some reminiscences, son Ron Reagan veered into a politically sensitive area by seeming to deliver a warning to President Bush and other politicians who talk about their religious faith at political events. Ron Reagan said his father was ''a deeply, unabashedly religious man, but he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians, wearing his religious faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage."

He added that although Reagan ''came to believe that God had spared him" from a 1981 assassination attempt, he concluded that the divine intervention left him with ''a responsibility, not a mandate, and there is a profound difference."

1. You really MUST...
...hear his tone, cadence and watch his body language, to appreciate the full impact of his statement.

3. It's good to see a mainstream media outlet reporting this...
I was wondering if one or more would.

4. I think we should all remind the press what Ron Reagan said. . .
. . .at his dad's service.

6. me too
if any news outlet fails to report this, it means they're choosing to suppress it, because it was obvious to anyone who saw it.

8. After the absolutely groveling
coverage by CNN for the past week, I can EASILY see them ignoring this. It wouldn't surprise me at all. Of course, I have seen many examples of them choosing to suppress information that reflects badly on * , so that wouldn't be unexpected.

9. It's Surprising To See This In Print
in even ONE newspaper.

Maybe if no one else mentions it... it didn't happen. :(

5. He almost lost me on the earlobe fascination story
since I was bouncing back and forth between 'NOW' and the burial ceremony.

Good for Ron, being good to his dad and his country.

p.s. Much more eloquent than his "turd" comparison. }(

10. I watched the whole Reagan spectacle from
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 11:33 PM by Sugarbleus
beginning to end. I caught that speech from Jr. It hit me straight away. I couldn't wait to email it to my liberal talk show host (who had already received many posts about it). That really said it all. I was ELATED the guy had it in him to say it like it is!!

If that wasn't a zinger (by proxy) from the grave, than I don't know what else could have matched one. I LOVED IT. You go Ron Jr.!!!

The things I've read recently, a few here and there, were that Reagan's and Bushes didn't really like each other. Don't know if that's accurate, but I'll buy it all the same. Nancy didn't seem all that "warmed" with Cheney's speech at the Rotunda either, IMO.

Finally, the GALL of the Bushes to unequivocally state that they WILL NOT approve stem cell research, even if the "greatest president's" (ahem) wife asked. What a debased family the bush cartel is.
.......................:puke:.........

BTW: C-Span should have links and copies of the entire event from beginning to end. (edited to add this info)
