OMG, just saw the latest GWB ad
Shows GWB walking up and down some sidewalks or walkways, at the WH I guess...as a voice over says "in spite of recession, 9/11, and war" and goes on to praise the increase in home ownership and the creation of whatever number of new jobs. During this voiceover they show "regular people" working, one, I think, is in an office, another is a shoe salesman. Then comes the ominous music, and picture of John Kerry...here's the good part..."John Kerry says this country has lost the most jobs since the Depression. The Depression. Tell John Kerry we need optimism, not pessimism" or some drivel like that. Has anyone else seen this? What were they thinking? MKJ

1. I think it says...
"Pessimism never created a job" (or jobs).

Total crap. Only works if you're a fundie whose life (financial situation) has not worsened under the freak monkey.

3. That's it!!!
Thanks for clarifying this, I couldn't believe the ad didn't refute what Kerry said (which it couldn't, anyway), but instead accused him of pessimism for pointing out the TRUTH. This from the Lords of Darkness currently occupying the WH. Too bizarre. MKJ

5. Yep. It's self condemning.
You NEVER repeat criticism without rebutting it.
They've done a nice ad for Kerry it appears.

10. Page 297,..Raygun Handbook...Mondale, 1984...
Remember how Mondale got tarred early and often about speaking the truth about having to raise taxes...which Raygun and Poppy Bush later had to do...to reign in the growing defecit? And even that wasn't enough? Mondale was plastered by Atwater, Ailes and others as a pessimist who was going to raise taxes. Rove's trying this same game.

Actually this is a softer approach...instead of attacking Kerry directly, that wasn't working. This is the sneaky way to "define" Kerry as negative and hope he bites. Kerry will be wise to stay on the high road.

Again, the question still being asked by those who really aren't decided who to vote for is if Bushyboy is worth putting up with for another 4 years. Let's let that question simmer for a while...like until August. Kerry's not going anywhere.

Cheers!

12. This ad reminds me of 1992
Bush the furst was getting a little desperate. He ran an ad about all the horrible things Bill Clinton had "done to" Arkansas. It was so ineffective because it was laughable..the ad made it sound like under Clinton, Arkansas had become a dark, grey wasteland complete with a buzzard overlooking the bleak landscape. Even though the ads differ in their approach, the desperation is becoming evident in GWB's campaign already. MKJ

15. The final nail in Poppy's coffin
Besides the debate which painted him as out of touch with reality, he lashed out against Clinton and Gore in the media by calling them "a couple of bozos". He sounded very, very desperate. And very pathetic.

I knew right then and there that Clinton would slide to victory.

14. Batcop made a good point about this last week
He calls it "Bart's Law"

Bart's Law #1
Don't EVER tell the truth in a political campaign.
People want to be lied to.
They don't care if you're the best, most qualified candidate in history, they're going to vote for
a candidate who stars in a fuzzy video of him playing with the family dog while his pearl-necklaced
wife and your 2.3 small children watch in awe while the voice-over dude explains that this guy
has whatever-state-you-live-in family values.

If you doubt me, ask President Mondale about telling the truth.
In the 1986 debate, Reagan promised he'd never raise taxes, so Mondale looked the camera right
in the eye and said, "I'm going to raise your taxes, and so will Mr Reagan. The difference
between us is I'm telling you the truth." And Reagan did raise taxes in 1986 with Bob Dole's help.

That's how you lose 76 states - don't ever be honest with the voters because voters are like children.
They don't have the courage to hear the damn truth. Voters want to be lied to.

Bad move on Bushco's part. Rove is really dumb. He's vicious, but dumb.

2. OMG, this is fabyoolous!
Unless I've missed something ultra subliminal in your description, this ad does nothing but remind voters that Bush has f*cked over the economy and the job market sucks. Who ya gonna believe ... the king of the world or your lying eyes and mean ole John Kerry?

9. phony job numbers
Please read my essay about the bogusness of the job numbers.

They aren't counting real, confirmed jobs. They're speculating in a favorable way.

17. Without question, they're manipulating the numbers.
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 09:43 AM by TahitiNut
What doesn't seem to get much attention is the rape and pillage of public education. This corrupt adminstration loves to claim "1.4 million 'new' jobs since August" (highlighting the fact that August marked the absolute lowest point in employment since the Great Depression) ... but fail to note that even since that abysmal low point, 39,800 jobs in public education (grade schools) were apparently lost.

Clearly, the claim of 433,000 'new' jobs in the "Professional and business services" sector is specious - a complete fabrication.

11. And the 1.4 jobs created... But Bush* is right on one thing:
The shrubastard* lost 4 million good ones, and in turn got 1.4 million part time retail minimum wage shit jobs while trying to classify fast food as MANUFACTURING.

The little pig-faced horselicker* is simply beyond credibility!!!

The worst part is, Bush is right. Our country is set up right now so that when the housing bubble bursts, peak oil passes (I say it has but the big plunge has yet to happen), too many good jobs go out the door so in turn everybody works at piddle retail shit jobs to help out the rich who are the only ones who can afford the goods being made (in the other countries for us, using oil we'll eventually nuke 'em for)... Our next president, either bushbastard* or Kerry, is going to have a HUGE problem.

There is no turning back.

13. more evidence for my theory that repugs don't have any
respect for facts *whatsoever*. Facts, shmackts! It's all about the "message" to them.

Fact: we abused Iraqi prisoners, in violation of Geneva conventions and the moral codes of pretty much every human on earth.
Message: we don't let those Eyerackies push us around! We're #1!!

Fact: Kerry has legitimate criticisms of Bush.
Message: He's a traitor! He hates America!!

I just wish I could develop a Grand Unified Theory of the Right Wing that would *explain* their bizzare distaste for facts. Maybe it's just that reality simply doesn't conform to their beliefs -- so instead of changing their beliefs, it's easier to just ignore reality.

Sigh.

18. Well, String Theory (unified theory for particles) requires
10 dimensions to work. Perhaps RW thought requires 10 dimensions as well, in order to explain all the contorted thinking.
