Oh man, the gushing over Reagan is everywhere!
Depressing...I just stumbled across this at a (of all things) CARTOON message board. Looks like they have the kiddies brainwashed quite well.

"Did you know that Reagan did commentary on a NASCAR race once? Wow, I sure wish I had a tape of that."

Gag...

7. Oh , man
Here's an actual post, in response to a foreigner who wrote: "F.D.R proved that a disabled person could become president, J.F.K proved that a Catholic could become president and Ronald Reagan finaly proved that anybody can become president.

- Sorry to all my American friends but I had to say this -free speech and all, you know."

>> Thoth...As an American, I don't know what to make of you comment. First off Are you demeaning Reagan or promoting him. Are you saying he's an idiot or he's a hard-worker, who personified the American Dream. Second, what country are you from? We enjoy freedom of speech here in the USA. Two, Facts about Reagan: 2. born to the town drunk, who was going from job to job during the Great Depression, Reagan did not grow up in luxury, like John F. Kennedy. 3. became a successful actor, later president of Screen Actors Guild. 3. In 1966, heelected Governor of California, defending Gov. Brown, who defeated then former Vice President Richard Nixon in the 1962 governor's race. Later, Richard Nixon was elected President of the United States in 1968, carrying California. 5. Reagan was elected President over incumbent Jimmy Carter in 1980. Reagan fought terrorism. After the Berlin Bombings, which killed one American (Over 2500 Americans died with the Sept. 11th Attack), Reagan ordered the bombing of Libya. Reagan bombing Lebanon and Syria after a couple of hijacked planes. He ordered the invasion of Grenada to rescue a couple of hostages. Reagan took out Communism. Reagan outspent the Soviet Union in military spending. Most analysts in the 1980's thought Reagan was going to start World War 3. The Soviet Union could not keep up with a military build-up and went bankrupt. The Warsaw Pact cracked. The Soviet Union broke up and Communism went to the waste side. Despite a recession at the beginning of his Presidency, Reagan enjoyed a growing economy that flourished under him.
Get back to the subject at hand. Some Founding Fathers wanted this country to become a country where anyone can succeed. Reagan did prove that going from his humble beginnings to becoming the most powerful man on the planet. Reagan did prove that anyone in this country can excel and even become President.
So if you are like paising him in anyway, thank you for honoring him. If you are demeaning him, Damn, you a nice guy...America saw his wife, Nancy and his children crying on his casket, while you are calling him names and attempting to destroy his reputation. Only an A-whole would do that!

Rest In Peace, Mr. President

3. Everywhere, except in the real world.
I have yet to see or talk to one person for whom Reagan's death even registers. Not one word about him from a real live person all week. Just moans and groans over the obscene coverage of the event.

5. It's hard to compete with 7 straight days, 24/7, of propaganda....
which was basically what it was. That does not mean some people did not have sincere grief. And "they" will not be happy until every single one of you agree with their revisionist history about one of the "greatest" presidents of the 20th century. Got it? :)

Who is "they', you might ask?

6. I'm trying to come up with a clever rebuttal
I'd try to come up with a clever rebuttal, but most likely anything I'd think of would be met with howls of "You don't like the greatest president who ever lived? Well then you must be a gay communist terraist looooooooooser!!!11!!11!!"

9. Reagan should be put on the $1000 bill
Its fitting since the only people Reagan looked out for in his eight years (the rich) would be the only ones able to afford to have them. On the back it could have a bank manager sniffing coke in front of the Savings and Loan he drove into bankruptcy....or a MX missile flying to wards a Star Wars satellite. I know it can have Ollie North handing guns to the Iranians for a silver briefcase.
