Important we thank cinema chains showing Moore's Farenheit 911

As we already know, the freepers are going apeshit over Michael Moores F911 movie. NewsMax.com is linking to a site that has email contacts for the theatre chains which will be showing F911 and encouraging readers to write in and complain. No reason why DU'ers shouldn't use the same contact list and email our thanks to them for supporting freedom of speech (after all, that is the American way, isn't it?). Contact list is at:

http://www.moveamericaforward.org/MichaelMoore/

From the link above:

This movie is nothing more than a political campaign advertisement against the war on terrorism, our troops and President Bush.

So why on earth are ANY movie theaters showing this film? “Fahrenheit 9/11” should be shown as a recruiting video for Al-Qaeda, not in our movie theaters.

Please join us in telling the movie theater companies below your opinion as it relates to their attempt to profit from the showing of “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

Since we are the customers of the American movie theatres it is important for us to speak up loudly and tell the industry executives that we don’t want this misleading and grotesque movie being shown at our local cinema.

3. They need to update the list
They've got AMC Theatres as having not yet decided. Maybe nationally, but the only two screens here to show it are both AMC's.

Sadly, I have to go to the one way down in South San Diego, it's the only one with stadium seating.

7. Who Pays the bills for MoveAmericaForward.org
A web site has launched a campaign to deter theater owners from showing Michael Moore's film, "Fahrenheit 9-11". A list of theaters currently committed to showing the film is provided along with exhortations to call and demand that the film be dropped. Some theater owners are reporting receiving death threats.

This web site, "http://moveamericaforward.org", is actually an alias for "http://moveamericaforward.com". A DNS check reveals that "http://moveamericaforward.com" is being run by a Public Relations firm out of San Francisco.

<snip>

Russo Marsh & Rogers is a political public relations firm with strong ties to the GOP.

So, I guess we know just who is behind the campaign of threats and harassment against theaters showing Moore's film!

12. Actually, they have the wrong people
For the larger chains like AMC, Loews and Regal, as far as I can tell, these ARE NOT the names of the executives. Having worked in the movie theater business briefly, the people to thank are the Film Buyers (also called Bookers) and of course, the CEO. I'm putting a list together of those people right now. I think most of the e-mails on the Move America Forward (Stop Michael Moore) site are nothing more than theater managers and they absolutely NO say in what films are exhibited in their theater.

Typical freeper mentality. What the fuck are you afraid of Freepers??? Hmmmm?? If your savior is in the White House and he's just sooo perfect, why are you afraid? Cowards!!!

Those neandrathalls can picket all they want.. off public property, of course, but to try and shut down the movie BEFORE it opens.. that makes them look so pathetically desperate and cowardly. This movie must be a total disaster for Bush. They are running scared!

14. My letter.
Do you think it's right that there are only TWO theaters in all of upstate New York who have the...how shall I put it...the nerve to show Oscar winning director Michael Moore's latest film, Fahrenheit 911?

If it is the divisive and controversial nature of this film you are worried about, The Regal Entertainment Group had no such problems with Mel Gibson's equally divisive and controversial film, The Passion Of The Christ, this past spring. If making lots of money from a film which many people derided as "The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre" is perfectly all right, and does nothing to tarnish the image of The Regal Entertainment Group, why have reservations regarding Fahrenheit 911?

There are few film I consider worthy of an hour's drive. This is one of them. I consider myself fortunate that one of the two theaters west of Albany where I might view this important film is only 40 miles' drive from where I live. Those living in western or northern New York aren't so lucky.

The vast majority of summer films show to empty houses as soon as a week after their release. As you may be aware, this costs money. Rather than keeping one or another of these Hollywood stinkers running longer than would otherwise be considered financially prudent, I hope you might consider showing this film to those of our patrons who are eagerly awaiting it, if only on a limited basis.

If you are still reading this, thank you for your sincere consideration.

------------

Actually, the ONLY NY theater west of Albany showing this film is located in Syracuse. It's a dinky little college theater near Syracuse University. Use my letter as a template if you must; I'd hate to see this film merely preaching to the choir.

Now to go to these freepers' homepage to gloat. ;-)

19. Keep in mind that it's only opening on 500 to 1000 screens
which is still a lot for a documentary. If it has great box office the first couple of weeks, then they will probably book it on more screens, but ultimately it's up to the film buyer/booker and it is summertime. They will be competing with other movies that will have more appeal to kids and Republicans - LOL. Besides, it's at 2 theaters in Rochester too.

Have you people suddenly decided to not make money? Do you not realize that this film can put change in your DVD and VCR era wallets? Honestly ! By not showing the film, all you are doing is making those who would visit your establishment buy or order the movie and YOU LOSE ! You also lose patrons of future movies? We who want to view the movie will see the movie ! It really does not matter whether you make it convenient for movie goers, because at the end of the day, at the end of the election, at the end of the bell ringing on wall street, there is only one conclusion...YOU LOSE MONEY !

I think as many others think, that you should consider another career, because all and all, you are sinking your own business. It is up to you. Be advised however, not all of the country is Republican, or Bush supporters, or any party affiliation. There were Anti Vietnam Movies playing as the Vietnam war raged.
As the wife of a combat disabled veteran, I think you are hypocritical and playing around with censorship. We know a word , too. It is called boycott !
Atlanta, Georgia and other states want the movie played. Your choice. Make a buck, or lose a lot of bucks. All said and done, we will see the movie whether it be in your Cinema or order the film, or drive 300 miles. Be aware. Its your loss.

25. Theaters haven't indicated they're backing down.
Hi Amanda

Bear in mind the theatres have not yet indicated in any way that they are succumbing to the pressure by the wingnuts to pull Farenheit 911. Your email might be seen as implying that they are already chickening out on us, but this (so far) isn't the case. It appears though that they are hearing from the freeptoids, so it's important us DUers let them know that there's plenty of people around who will pay good money to see F911 regardless of whether it causes freepers to blow their head gaskets or not.

This was posted in the readers' letters at WRH.

READER: By the way, I already sent a few emails to the larger theater groups listed, thanking them for not giving in to the bullying. I also got a response back saying they are being barraged by right wing threats.

WRH: Tell them who is behind it. It is important that the theaters know this is a bought-and-paid-for campaign and not a grass-roots movement. If this story gets wide play, it will blow up in their faces. Americans at heart still believe in fair play and rejection of this sort of dirty tricks gaming to silence opposition transcends party affiliation. Everyone should be outraged at "Moore-gate".

http://whatreallyhappened.com/letters/

Whenever I write to the theatres I include in the email a comment about how this anti-Moore propaganda effort is being organized by the right wing PR firm Russo Marsh and Rogers and I give the URL to the WRH page that broke the story http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/russo.html

26. Thanks...but down here in Ga. Regal and AMC are saying No way
Calling management and I mean Carmack, who my brother in law used to contract work to afer his retirement, knew all of the District managers and they are being ridiculous..THEY ARE THE WING NUTS This is Ralph Reid territory and that is why I mentioned Atlanta specifically. Bush Country. I am grateful for the ones that are going to let it happen but they got big problems with their own employees who are Big Bushites and I am talking district managers saying It won't happen here in Atlanta. That was the reason the letter was as intense. They are saying some terribly vile things including closing the theaters if HQ's says it plays.

29. I sent this email
to one name from each company listed on the site:

I got this address from a conservative website urging like-minded citizens to demand that you do not show Fahrenheit 911. I am IN FAVOR OF SHOWING THE FILM and against this transparent attempt to intimidate theater owners to comply with a particular political agenda. The day that one political group can set the censorship line for private enterprise is the day democracy dies in America.

31. Here's my email to the Charlotte theather being targeted...rat bastards
It has come to my attention that there is an email flooding campaign being waged against theaters planning on showing the Michael Moore movie, Fahrenheit 9/11. As a long-time NC native and former Charlotte resident, I applaud your courage in agreeing to show this movie and uphold the right for the free-flow of ideas in our democracy.

Rest assured, you may feel that business will suffer if you show the film, but I can unequivocally say that even more Americans will be disappointed in your choice if you acquiese to the demands of a fringe few. In the interim, I am telling all of my friends about the movie and your theater, as many want to see it but are not sure what theaters are carrying the film.

Thank you again for providing a venue for this film.

Regards,
