What do Hispanics think about Sanchez and Gonzalez?
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 07:05 PM by gulliver
Sanchez was going to be a four star, and Gonzalez was on his way to becoming a U.S. Supreme Court justice. That was before the Bush "Reverse Midas Touch." Now they are both up to their ears in the Bush torture scandal.

What effect does this have on Hispanic politics? Does anyone have any idea?

1. I don't know about the Hispanics, but
they brought this on themselves. They didn't have to go along with Bush's convoluted sense of law. They also had the right to refuse orders.

2. I really think ethnicity has little to do with it or the opinions
it will generate. Gonzalez fucked up royally, and so did Sanchez. So did Rummy, and Tenet, and Rice, and Cheney, and Clarke, and Bunnypants...the list goes on forever. High ranking Hispanics, but they got involved with the wrong people - they broke the law. Of course, you don't need to ask the black community how they feel about Rice or Powell. ;)

3. That's what's interesting

There's a sense that while the African American Communty may not be in play, the hispanic community may be. So Rice and Powell don't raise the same kinds of questions I guess.

But of course both of these attitudes reflect the same racial bias.

"Rice and Estrada aren't white; therefore they shouldn't hold office."

"Why don't Democrats support Rice and Estrada; after all they aren't white?"

In both questions the only important thing about Rice and Estrada is thier race. I personally don't like ignoring race, but I don't want to make it my soul concern either.

4. I dunno. I'm half Hispanic (Chile) so I guess I qualify for an
opinion. I don't think ethnicity makes you follow the dark side of your psyche, however, those who are responsible for suffering and evil deeds need to be brought to justice as much as anyone else. If they were to be judged by their peers, other Hispanics, I don't think they would be treated any differently than if they were some other ethnicity.
