Ok...I have to ask (one last Reagan funeral thing)
I avoided the non-stop hoopla throughout the week. I got my dose of TLC, HGTV, Moral Court, People's Court, and finally...no TV. But I watched a large part of Friday's ceremonies on CSPAN today (no comment on the non-stop re-airing). So my question is...Where was Condi?

1. Good point...
Hell, even Rove was in there!!!

One thing about the CA service... This kids were GREAT... Especially Ron Jr. He snapped up and skewered Dubya when he spoke of the DIFFERENCE between his dad and someone that would use religion to govern!!!

2. The kids were wonderful!
I started to get the lump in my throat and tearing up. As much as I don't like the Reagan "legacy" (which is a bunch of crap), I still feel great empathy for the family.

I looked hard to find Condi...nowhere.

11. are you kidding . . .
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 11:16 PM by merh
someone had to stay in the bunkers and run the show! Dubya's paranoid group had her stay behind to keep the shadow government shadowed and to keep here finger on the button, in case they needed to take out a nation or two.

(also, she is African American)

13. Noticed the
African American thing. Aside from a couple of world leaders, the only people I saw "of color" were Powell and spouse.

As far as running the show, she's a university administrator who's incompetent as far as running any show, IMO. Scary thought to consider her as in charge of things.

15. The whole admin is scary
At least she was a successful administrator, what did GW do before he was elevated to his position?????

16. Was she "successful" as an administrator?
I haven't seen anything to merit that. I'll stand corrected if you show me.

18. Didn't Exxon
name a oil tanker after her? I have read she was considered competent, in her previous employ. She just didn't have a clue about foreign affairs, especially Middle Eastern affairs (she was more familiar with Asian relations).

19. No...her expertise
was Russia. She was on the Board of Chevron...nice nameplate for the tanker.

As to her 'success', my experience with having at one time worked at a university for 15 years tells me that it was in the intellectual papers (yes, ;intellectual') papers she managed to get published and the people she knew that gave her rise to her position.

21. thanks for the info
What did she do at Chevron? I guess I had mistakenly aligned her with Exxon because of the Valdez. The job she has done for our nation in her role as national security adviser is comparable to the Valdez accident and that horrible oil spill that destroyed so much. Its times like this I wish I were an artist/cartoonist.

5. Wow, was she a complete no-show
I was unable to watch any of the televised events this week because of my health, I have an extremely delicate system which collapses under stress.

Maybe she was offended by Reagan's willingness to do business with South Africa in spite of their apartheid policies, or maybe she was upset at his efforts to dismantle all affirmative action which were sorely need at the time.

Was she really absent totally?

Maybe it was a security thing though? Kind of like Al Haig.

8. Nowhere to be seen.
Maybe I missed it. I didn't watch from the very beginning (which is why I'm asking). But I saw a large part of the National Cathedral ceremony and almost to the end of the California ceremoney. She was nada.

22. Where were the Twins?
Tricia and Julie Nixon sent their regards, and would have appeared if their dad was in the White House. I'll bet they attended LBJ's funeral.

23. I thought I saw her on the same side as Powell

I thought I saw her ugly face on the same side as GW and Pickles. She was more to the middle . It was either Condi or someone that looked like her.

Since there were no more than six identified African Americans, it is apparent to me that the "Great Communicator" appeared to have little to no communication with people of color.

I wonder why? Huuuuuuum

24. Chimp probably didn't want Condi & Laura
'mixing' it up at a state funeral, very bad form to have the wife & girlfriend in such close proximity. Would have been interesting to see a real 'catfight' between pickles & condi with hair pulling etc.
