Meet the Press footage

I saw an old 'Meet the Press' clip of then UN Ambassador George HW Bush. I was struck at what a bumbling fool he sounded like. He sounded like .... HIS SON!!!!!

So maybe the Bush boys are ALL just really late bloomers. Dubaya won't get the ability to speak in complete sentences until he is 60.

1. Most strangely, a dear friend of mine is most ashamed to be a distant
cousin of *'s (through the Walker clan). This friend has never met him, but the two stories she tells of that branch of the family is that they belonged to a country club in Connecticut where all the members are considered to be "junior members" until they hit their mid-fifties because it generally took that long for their trust funds to be activated.

The other story is that during the holiday seasons the family would assemble for the annual Christmas photo op.
The shot was always backdropped by a live manger scene. One year, during WWII, sheep were in short supply. So they had to glue cotton balls onto the golden retrievers. . .?

It always struck me as quite the image. I've always wondered whether they had to shave them afterwards. . .the poor pooches. Peta was not then in existance.

Yeah. . . perhaps their ingenuity has dwindled over the generations through inbreeding.

Who'd have thunk it possible . . .?

2. Weird article in The Atlantic this month about Shrub's speaking skills
basically saying when he ran for gov. or Texas and debated Ann Richards, it was like a different person than we see now. It was a guy who was actually articulate and somewhat clever.

Makes you wonder what kind of degenerative problems the guy has.

Either that or drugs.

4. I have always wondered about that....
....and never could understand why someone with the resources to do so (a newspaper perhaps) didn't find old film of Bush speaking for purposes of comparison.

Now we know where to find this information. Thank you for the tip to Atlantic Monthly.

5. I just finished that article
Very interesting. Talks about Bush's speaking/debate skills, and then Kerry's. An important read for the Kerry camp.

9. I suspect ...

That the Texas debates were much better staged. He probably had a long series of "mini-speaches" in his pockets to rattle off.

There is no question about this guys competence when he is well practiced and prepared. But anything spontaneous, and he falls apart!!!!

This is why staying on the ideology side of things helps. You never have to be specific. You can always fall back on some pre-recorded message in your head instead of addressing ... ISSUES!!!

We'll see. But I don't think Kerry will make the same mistakes as Gore did.
