Ben Shapiro, a bushgang wannabe

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&u=/ap/20040610/ap_on_re_us/campus_conservative_book_1&printer=1

Ben Shapiro isn't the only conservative railing against liberalism on America's college campuses. But right now — thanks to a marketing campaign taking place mostly in cyberspace — he's the one getting the most attention.

At 20, Shapiro graduates later this month from UCLA, where he has been best known for caustic columns in the campus paper.

Now, Shapiro has assembled those notes in "Brainwashed: How Universities Indoctrinate America's Youth" — a book that has won attention even amid the flood of political tracts from both left and right that is saturating the best-seller lists.

The publisher, WND Books, will not release sales figures, and the book has not cracked any overall best-seller lists. But despite little mainstream publicity, it has been among Top 25 hardcover non-fiction best-sellers on Amazaon.com lately, spiking after appearances by the author on conservative talk radio shows.

wonder how much money and promised job the bushgang gave this kid.

guess this is Ben's way of proving himself for membership in the gang.

2. The Return of Water Buffalo Boy
"Water Buffalo Boy" was a student at Penn in the early 1990s who became a conservative darling after he shouted insults at four young black women, including calling them "water buffalo". He may or may not have used the "N-word" but he did cop to calling them "water buffalo," then said it was a rough translation of a Hebrew word -- he was an Israeli national -- meaning "dummy". He was asked to appear at the Judicial Inquiry Office for causing a disturbance, but a few calls to his right-wing patrons made him a martyr for the cause.

And such a martyr! He was BMOC for months, while two of the young women were harassed so badly that they had to move from where they lived.

Every few years, the conservatives draft a new college martyr. It's a regular industry. A $50k starting salary at the National Review, with a separate expense account for cigars, awaits the young man hale and hearty enough to meet the challenge of being this year's Rebel Without A Soul.

6. Isn't it funny how education is indoctrination
and indoctrination is education? Idiots like Shapiro think that the classroom would be a lot better if it would just reflect their ideals. People like him will not be stopped until creationism, censored history, and propeganda replace canons of criticism, common sense, and free thought.

The idea that university curricula are the products of rabid left wing communist elitist eggheads is crap. Sometimes, the truth hurts. Maybe Genesis is not 100% accurate in its descriptionS(!) of creation. Maybe slaves really did have it bad and didn't skip to the fields every morning and sing paeans to Master. Maybe millions of Jews really WERE killed in concentration camps. Maybe AIDS is not a punishment for gay people. But Neocon freaks like this kid would love to erase such questioning from academia.

8. Here's Ben's blog...seems he was raised by two
Reagan repugs...not all children of the right turn out to be liberals. I cannot understand how a JEW can be this reactionary.

He's going to Harvard Law and will probably end up in the Senate.
