About the "education pResdient" thing....
We all have some idea of what the jackass and NCLB have done to our schools. That and the lack of funding for states in general have shrunk education dollars and redirected the focus of education.

Early on in this misadministration, and during the 2000 campaign IIRC, he claimed great success with his educational reforms in Texas, specifically Houston I think.

After 4 years or so of Bushification, what do Texas schools look like? What reforms did the jackass implement and have they improved schools? Has the drop out rate changed? Have test scores improved? Have teacher retention rates changed?

How can I find this information?

1. I saw an article awhile back
It might have been in one of the Houston papers, I'm not sure: it said the Texas program was an unmitigated disaster. In fact, in order to fudge the numbers, they just stopped tallying dropouts! It was really incredible.

Now that I think about it, it was probably a piece by either Molly Ivins (who is archived online at workingforchange) or Jim Hightower in his newsletter.

Here's the link to Molly's archives:

2. what I have heard about Houston school districts
is that it's a huge scandal down there, starring our Secretary of Education (former Houston school district supervisor)

here's some background via Molly Ivins

3. That's hardhead and AZDem....
I should have known to look for info in Molly Ivins' columns. She's so awesome!

I remember Rod Paige's involvement in this also.

Thanks...

5. For an "edgication" president 'ya think the guy could read a book
or at least a newspaper. Maybe then he would learn what an unmitigated disaster "no child left behind" is!!!

7. Oh, that's so last year (or was it the year before?)
And next year, if the slime bucket actually gets elected, he'll be the Peace President.

and he calls Kerry a flip flopper.
