Dean's 3rd column: "The Tax Cut Scam" Outstanding!
http://www.caglecartoons.com/download.asp?linkTo=home

SNIP..."For the past ten years many Americans thought they were getting tax cuts. In fact, they were losing money.

While it is true that voters like the idea of tax cuts, they do not like the idea of cutting essential services, which is what is currently happening. For most working families, so-called tax cuts are simply an elaborate accounting shell game – lower income tax, but higher property tax . . . child tax credit, but higher college tuition . . . marriage penalty tax relief, but a 36 percent increase in health care premiums....."

SNIP.."The American people are smarter than most politicians think. We know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. I would like to see a government in Washington which treats us as adults, so we can be told the real cost of feel good programs like tax cuts BEFORE they are passed, not afterwards. One of the first items on the next president’s agenda ought to be to restructure the tax code so that fairness is restored for working families and so that ordinary middle-class Americans have a sense of hope again..."

2. I could have used Howard with me last week!
There are these hideous GOP "ladies" parked out in front of the Post Office lately. they are trying to get an initiatve on the ballot that will cut property taxes by at least 25%. Sounds great? Well.. what services will be lose because of it? The local library has already put out an info paper saying it would mean they would have to cut at least 4million dollars from their budget next year for starters... I wish Howard Dean was with me to explain to these wingnuts that if they'd analyze WHY the property taxes have to be raised, in order to fund the cuts from the Feds.. they'd take another look at Bush.

But these women are clueless. They tried to get me to sign the petition.. actually, they were quite obnoxious. Very snippy.. When I told them that I'm fine with paying my property taxes because I realize it pays for all the great services I get here.. like good schools, a great library, nice streets, lovely parks, they got pissed off. I told them that I lived in a State with Prop 13, a similar measure, and it destroyed the public services... I told the one lady how awful it was to live somewhere with NO public services. The dumb bat said, "sounds like HEAVEN!". I invited her to move there.

They just are on this disconnect as to WHY their local taxes are going up. Do they think the money that Bush cut comes from the magic tax fairies? Someone has to pay for it!

Oh.. this week, they're out there trying to get signatures to open up our recently closed primaries. They are shameless hussies in really bad makeup.. oh, and LARGE SUVs with Bush/Cheney stickers, and a license frame that reads: I AM A GUN LOVIN' REPUBLICAN!

3. The right wing has brainwashed many against any social programs.
It seems they have totally closed minds.
