ok, Did the Clintons fall asleep at Reagan's Funeral?
I've been moving this week, and havent seen any TV coverage- although i've had the pleasure of listening to some various conservative talk shows who were all having a circle jerk about Bill and Hill disgracing themselves. Did this actually happen, or what?

1. No...it's just a picture during a prayer.
If you look at the picture, then you must also conclude Nancy Reagan was sleeping as well.

2. Hardly.
Somebody has o show me three or four frames before and after the shot to prove they did anything more than blink at the same time.

And if they "rested" their eyes for a few second (to clear te tears no doubt) - so what?

They most certainly did NOT fall asleep.

6. No.
I saw the footage, and as always, this originates with Drudge using one frame that makes it LOOK like they were asleep.
A second after that frame, they both look up.

But the conserva-crap spreaders are pouncing on this, of course.

13. I noticed that Ron Reagan didn't close his eyes
for a prayer at the Calif. funeral (yes, I did watch it.) I wondered if
the freepers would be upset.

Back to falling asleep at a funeral...Reagan's put me to sleep.

and at one point Big Dawg was struggling mightily to keep his eyes open......also showed Prince Charles taking a royal eye refreshener....no I'm not a freep and no Hilary wasn't nodding and no it wasn't during a prayer, it was during NumbNuts biographical recital that passed as eulogy.

19. Yup
It was not always during prayer (there were several panning shots where Bill had his eyes closed), but it still is no big deal. I have closed my eyes at every funeral I have been to for longish periods of time while I was listening. If I had to listen to GWs extra long speech (from the pulpit instead of the podium no less), I would have fallen asleep too. They did look very tired to me .. I think resting the eyes or solemn listening is pretty much on the money. In any case, this Clintons sleeping thing is a bunch of partisan hoopla that boils down to being in the eyes of the beholder.

37. There are many places people close their eyes for various reasons
It happens in church when people are simply reflecting on what the minister is saying, at concerts, as with classical music, certain speeches, poetry readings, etc., etc. when the person wants to refocus on what he is hearing, and wants to listen to more deeply, more completely. Some people like to be alone with their thoughts.
(A church I attended used to dim the lights during the sermon, purposely, to encourage deeper thought in the congregation.)

People who don't do this are over-stimulated by their immediate surroundings.

People also close their eyes when they are trying hard to remember something.

Hanging on the last elected President who lived in the White House, looking over his shoulder, watching every move he makes, and THEN trying to gossip about it is comical.

Those people are saying far more about themselves than they realize.

20. Yes they were, but so what
so was I. It was during W's eulogy, not a prayer. Bill was really nodding off -- but clearly fighting to stay awake. Hillary's eyes were closed, but it was not evident whether she was sleeping. I say this, not from some picture on Drudge, but from watching (and rewatching) the broadcast, which I saved on TIVO.

But I say, so what? I was falling asleep during the speech. It was overly long and boring as hell.

My favorite clip from the day was Merv Griffin's assistant poking him repeatedly in the eye with an umbrella. :dunce:

the Big Dog's book coming out and the media promotions. Sludge was absolutely frothing about it last night, I thought he was going to have a stroke. This was the best that they could do, start some silly rumor. They obviously were praying. It's all they got, pretty pathetic and transparent.

25. Who cares - or rather who gives a flying "F"
Hill and Bill are really busy people - trying to help save this country - if they fell asleep - so what. The rest of the nation could tune out to the stupid over-kill of this president's death. Bill did more for this country than Reagon ever did.

Napping is a fitting homage to Reagan's Presidential legacy.

Later when questioned about the details of Bush's eulogy, Clinton replied "I don't recall."

35. I watched bits of the funeral -- it was very boring.
I couldn't help noticing that Nancy Reagan had a look of permanent
surprise on her face. Don't mean to be nasty, but I think she's
had too many facelifts. I wonder if she can close her eyes at all?
I didn't see any change of expression at all, not once.
