Reagan’s Bigotry Unconsciously Cruel, Inexcusable
When Congress re-christened National Airport in Washington, D.C., to honor former President Ronald Reagan a few years ago, it seemed like a studied and deliberate insult to that city’s black majority.

To many of us, Reagan personified white backlash against black progress. He was the white man’s champion and the black man’s enemy.

Reagan embraced social policies that had a disproportionately negative impact on minorities. He described civil rights leaders as professional whiners who looked to the government for handouts. A former education secretary during the Reagan administration claimed in a book that several key presidential aides reportedly referred to Martin Luther King, Jr. as Martin Luther “Coon.”

1. Do you really think it was unconscious?
They knew who they were and they knew what they were doing.

2. Without upsetting you further...
I believe the whole notion of taking responsibility for your actions is a veiled form of racism. Americans shouldn't blame the government for their situation when it was your fault you got into this mess.

You live in the wrong part of the city, can't get out because of a poor education and even poorer opportunities - it's up to you to fix the problem - you've got to take responsibility for the failures inherent in the system.

It's very easy to ask others to take responsibility when you've got no troubles.
