1. Well, it is AOL
No offense, but AOL users aren't the most astute people in cyberspace.

Unless you're scamming them and surfing off free discs.

3. I tried the 30-day free AOL deal
back in '96. I thought, oh goody....a free month of dial-up!!!! Such a deal!!! Happy, happy, happy...

About 2 days into the free-trial AOL corrupted my Win95 and I got the blue screen of death. Not happy, not happy, not happy..

But I don't remember the password exclusivity at that time.

5. Thanks for that observation....
I think I'll go chew some tobacco outside of my doublewide now. In the future I'll only try to DU polls that are found in more "astute" locales.

7. BUT WAIT! You can be saved!
Check into local ISP's, or Earthlink or NetZero. They're cheaper, and don't install all kinds of garbage on your computer.

AOL is nasty stuff.

I expected to be flamed for this, but I truly despise AOHell.

12. LOL...I know....
I don't have my ISP through AOL, only use their mail. I'm hardly that loyal to them to flame you. I am not fond of them either but do like some of their software. And I HATE the fucking RWingnuts that frequent the place.

2. What is it about AOL
When there is a link to AOL I get qued for a username and password? What is AOL preventing non-AOL subscribers from seeing? AOL is confusing, I thought it was just a public ISP not some kind of private club you can't even look at.

11. AOhelL runs 2-3 conservative in all polls
note that 52% of AOL users call themselves "conservative" while only 22% say they are "Liberal".

Their National straw poll showed Kerry ahead 64% to Bush* at 24% last week.

14. And Kerry's STILL ahead there..
::::Their National straw poll showed Kerry ahead 64% to Bush* at 24% last week.
::::

As of 4:29 pm PDT, June 14, it's showing Kerry 63%, Bush 35%, Nader 2% nationally, with 17,463 respondents.

This other poll probably got linked to a conservative forum or something...

16. I couldn't find the poll you refer to BUT I came across the "straw poll".
This is the URL (but maybe it's only aol? it says aol members can vote once/month so it seems to be just for members, and the results for June could still change by month's end):

http://electionguide04.com/straw_poll.adp

OK, so I voted. And of course wasn't surprised that Kerry's ahead in my state. But then the whole map appeared and it was STUNNING!! The only states Bush is ahead in are WY and AL for a whopping 9 electoral votes. Kerry has 529! Well, there were only 17,463 people voting, but then again this is aol (reputedly not notably liberal). Percentages: nationally Kerry 63%, Bush 35%, Nader 2%; in CT Kerry 65%, Bush 32%, Nader 4%; in TX Kerry 55%, Bush 43%, Nader 1%.

You have to look at each state separately so that's all I checked. I wish I knew what the straw polls of previous months looked like. But WOW--this is encouraging, no matter how you look at it.

20. Thanks--I did use that link and voted there too.
Not as encouraging as the straw poll. Oh well, it IS aol. (and yes I know what people think of it. I only use it to connect, never use the boards, so didn't really know who else uses it. oh well)

21. AOL is junk
An Evil service. It's a fuckin scam they run. I've been overcharged twice by them when "taking advantage of their great free offers".

I spoke to someone who worked as tech support and they were told not to allow people to cancel their service.

I wouldn't be surprised if mostly freepers use that service...bunch of idiots.
